7700 + Windows Vista RC1 - Page 5

Mine did that too. I have an m9700 though. So it didnt pick up the 7900gs but it said that I had a 7300 gs or something. So I went into Device manager and right clicked the GPU and clicked update driver. Then clicked update driver from file. Then after that there is another option to choose from a list. Do that and then search for the go 6800.

That is how I did it. Works great!

that worked
but still have some problem with vista
it HANGUP always when i put it in sleep mode
it never go awake again { actually it dies instead of sleep :P }

As far as Sleep mode, it is not compatible with all video cards at the moment and is last on Microsoft's list for debugging. They will fix it later but right now, Microsoft is more concerned with stability and compatibility. Use the Shutdown option for the time being.

As for audio. It seems I'm the only one that still has this problem. Reply to pepsirules2k and KoD7085:

I know what you are talking about as far as Windows Update, the "show more/show other" option. I have had it enabled, it is not my problem. I'd like to know the following infirmation to help me narrow down the cause. If 2 or 3 people that have sucessfully installed the audio on the 7700 could reply, it might be helpfull.

Video Card:
Vista Build #:
Fresh Install / Fresh Install on top of Win XP / Win XP Upgrade:
Internet connected at begining of install:
Internet connected during install:
Additional Hardware connected to comp during install (USB/Mouce/Keyboard):
Order of Driver Installation:
1st Driver (name + ver.):
2nd Driver:
3rd Driver:
Connect to Internet before or after installing the Audio driver:
Ran Windows Update before or after installing the Audio driver:

If a few could e-mail me / post this infirmation (+ anything else you might think usefull), it may greatly reduce my trial and error debugging process.

BTW: I've been so busy with classes that I haven't had any time to fool around with Vista. I greatly appreciate your help.

My most recient installation trial:

Video Card: 7900GTX
Vista Build #: 5600

can anyone tell me what is the vista rating score for ?
my scores are:
processor : 4.4 { i upgrade the processor from 3.6 1MB(560J) to 3.8 2MB (670) & the score didn't change }
RAM: 5
graphic: 5.9
gaming graphic: 5 {was 4.9 before letting windows auto-update the drivers }
HD: 5.6

so anyone got thier scores?
note: after you upgrade processor with vista goto device manager & un-install old processor.
so vista can install the new driver for it.

I keep getting an error saying, "Your Operating System Does Not Support This Installation, Please Boot From Setup Disk" or something like that when I try to install it, I'm trying to install it from an external hdd since I don't have a dvd burner around. That should work right? Do you think my download is corrupt?

Ok, I got it to a disk but while loading my raid drivers it says there aren't any drivers to be displayed, any alternatives?

Tokamak7700:
Video Card: NVidia 6800 (non-ultra)
Vista Build #: 5600
Fresh Install on Secondary hdd in laptop
Internet connected at begining of install: No
Internet connected during install: No
Additional Hardware connected...(USB/Mouse/Keyboard): Mouse, USB Floppy (For RAID Controller drivers)
Order of Driver Installation: Atheros wireless 4.21 (from WildPackets)
Windows update drivers (included audio, video, and possibly others though I can't remember)
91.33 NVidia driver from Laptopvideo2go.com
Connect to Internet before or after installing the Audio driver: Before Install as I downloaded them from Windows update
Ran Windows Update before or after installing the Audio driver: Before (though that was probably obvious)
Hope that gives a little more insight

I found that I had to have everything in the root directory of the media you are loading them from (no sub-directories). Also, I had a problem with using my thumb drive to load the drivers, I would get an error stating "No system volume", or something like that, when I selected the disk to install to. Used a USB floppy and all went well. I know in build 5600 you can "Browse" to find the drivers, but in previous ones you could not.

oh ok, thanks so much, I'll try that!

Ok, I came to find out only the 32 bit version will work for me, hard drive driver related issue. But anyway, it just so happens that I installed windows on my D drive and some of my system files are on my C drive! Which is the drive I planned on installing Vista on, so what I'm thinking is run the windows recovery disk, and completely get rid of that volume. Then make a very small C drive and another drive, for vista, only downside is my boot.ini is on my C drive, will my computer boot without it?
Well I am so sick of this I wiped both drives, and am doing a install of ONLY Vista on my HDD, I'll see how that works. My config is 60 for C and 60 for D, well not really 60 but you get it. I'm installing it on D, I'm going to see how that works and I'll report back.

You'll be surprised how quickly you'll get used to (and hence bored of) it.... ;-D

still feelin it!

cHRoNiCauST: If you get sound working, let me know. I have a feeling that the onboard modem is what is causing the problem. Because the modem is built into the Realtek chip, it is not possible to disable it without disabling the audio as well. Until I can get correct drivers for the modem, the computer will not detect the Audio output device.

I have had a similar problem in Windows XP when installing a newer version (at the time) of Realtek modem drivers that was tested for the device but not the 7700's motherboard setup. This caused a similar problem in Windows XP finding ~40 fake "unknown devices" soon followed by a BSOD.

Everyone: Keep us updated on Vista successes and failures.

Yearg, I'm running out of ideas. I've done the install, never expected that to work lol. I've used Device Manager and the Have Disk option but while its installing it gives me the error that "Device Could Not Start-10" and says it failed. Sounds like a good chance at being that modem, I see where you are coming from. I'm still hopeful though, I know there's a way, there always is.
