The fan in my Compal GL30 laptop doesn't turn on unless the battery is at 100% and I put the system in standby and bring it back up. The problem is, once it turns back off, in order to get it to run again lest my system overheat is to repeat the standby/wake-up procedure.

When I boot the system, the fan is on until the Windows XP loading screen appears. When that screen appears, the fan stops spinning, and I have to do the above procedure. This suggests that something in the OS is preventing the fan from coming on, but I am stumped.

I have tried MBM5, but my motherboard (Compal HGL3X) isn't supported, and I have no idea how to set up ACPI for NHC. It seems as if nobody else in the world has had any problems with the GL30 other than me.

Any suggestions? This fan problem is kind severe since with the fan off my gpu idles at 70-100 C.
