HD Video(1080p) stutter on M90.

Hey guys I was trying to play some HD video clips from the following site on my M90 at 1080p and they seem to be stuttering every once in a while. The screen freezes for like a second or two.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...tshowcase.aspx

I am using all dell drivers and have no idea y this is happening. My XP pro is fully updated ( media player 10) and i am using the "ACE Mega CoDecS Pack".

Specs:
Dell Precision M90 |
17" WUXGA |
Core Duo T2400 1.83 GHz |
Quadro FX 2500M 512MB |
2 GB DDR2 667MHz |
80 GB 7200 RPM HD

All help and advice is highly appreciated.

your prossessor might not be able to keep up with the Decompression required by 1080p video

Your speed step is messing it up. Dowload Notebook hardware control and put the CPU to max power.

woot that worked like a charm, no more stuttering.

What do you use to moniter your video card?

thanx

GPU temps? I use I8KFanGUI. It works very well, plus you can setup special fan profiles to kick in at certain temps. Just remember, there will be a temperature offset you need to put in the advanced page... For a 7900GS its like 8 Celsius... not sure what the offset would be for the Quadro FX. If you open up your background display properties, and go to advanced, your control panel in there should have a temperature readout. Just take whatever that number is (that figure is the correct one) and figure out the difference between it and whatever I8K is outputting. That will be the temperature offset you need to put in that advanced tab.

Is there 1 tool with all the function of Notebook hardware control & I8KFanGUI.

I really like the monitering chart that Notebook hardware control gives on the right top corner(see screen shot below). Is there any way to get my GPU stats in a similar way.

I dont seem to be able to find a temperature read out. I need help setting the following offsets. Also what are good CPU & GPU temperature's when they are idle, and loaded. The following is my idle temperature Ranges: thanx for the help.

Here is a picture to show you what I mean...

GPU is the only offset you need to program. The rest of the sensors read out correctly.

I dont seem to have that option.

Also once my fans turn off they wont turn back on by themselves, i have to turn on my switching to manual control.

Hmm, what driver are you using for the quadro? I have the XtremeG Mobileforce 91.37's on my system. You may want to try updating the drivers with a performance driver to gain access to the temp screen. I think the standard Dell drivers have half of the control panel blocked out... lol.

I seem to be getting an with the driver on nVidia's site (91.36) and the driver from laptopvideo2go.com (91.47).

Only the dell driver seems to work.

Try using one of the drivers from Laptopvideo2go, this is there list of drivers here...

...and in case you need a bit of assistance getting them to work right, check out this FAQ here...

Thats because you have to also download the modded .inf file with the new drivers. NVidia has support for some cards removed from the drivers when they release them. The modded .inf file just puts that support back in. The .inf file link is right next to the driver link on their site. Just download it and stick it in the folder you are trying to install from. Then it should all work just fine...

If I were you I would try the 91.37's. IIRC, the 91.47's no longer have the display properties control panel, and instead have some silly GUI'ed up POS control panel now. I dont believe the new cp has the temp monitor in it anymore... at least if it was, I sure as heck couldnt find it.. lol

well i got the 91.47 from Laptopvideo2go to work nicely. But my GPU temp seems a lot higher than yours.

Also i dont seem to be able to turn on the automatic fan control option in I8KFanGUI v3.0 beta 7.

Good job man! I knew you could get er done, lol. As far as my temps being lower, well... I am sitting in an air conditioned semi truck right now, and the ambient temps are in the very low 70's right now. Plus I had the fans forced on high in that shot too.

As far as beta 7 goes, I am still using beta 5. I never upgraded to the new one, as the one I have is working quite well. So to figure that out, you would have to ask somebody with the new version for help. In any case, you made wonderful progress, and you may have even unlocked some extra performance potential in your graphics card that you didnt know was there. Time for some benchmarks! lol

WOW the new driver(91.47) from Laptopvideo2go seems to be doing wonders after i restarted my system. The temps seem to have come down a bit. But my GPU till seems to be running at a higher temp that yours. But then again they are different cards and you fans are set to high.
