That game is pretty cool. Are they still working to fix the bugs?

Intresting.....While this lappie is not on the work network as it's my own private laptop (my work laptop is an Evo N800v, a tad to slow for me now) I can locate the actual printers by manually typing in the location and enter the password to get onto the printers. The print drivers install OK but simply refuse to print - Under Media centre it works fine, didn't think the bug was a Vista thing simply thought the printers had gone offline. Have also noticed reduced battery life on Vista even when running on power save - am lucky to get 2 hours which I'm putting down to the constant HDD running. There always seems to be some app writing onto or reading off the HDD Also get a score of 4.4 due to slower 5499rpm HDD, next lowest is both ram & CPU at 4.9. I think I need Meron after all I do have a 2.16gig processer!!!!!

I get a 4.7 on HD and the rest hover around 5.4. And that is with merom. Which is really funny because I ran PC mark '05 and got the following on 2 identical systems minus yonah/merom 2.0G:

Your (my older) CPU = 4.9
PCMark on Yonah - 4952

My Merom = 5.4
PCMark = 5435

Coincidence?

heehee, then an overclocked Core 2 Quadro will give you a score over 10 !?!?!?!

I have had the printer problem you describe when I was using the beta 2. As for always accessing the HD, I was told that the indexing service is to blame for this. If you disable it, you get better performance and battery life.

Bluetooth 350 and mouse

Anyone else having issues with Dell BT 350 and a mouse? I have a Logitech V270, which works fine under XP. In Vista, my bluetooth is found, and I can get it to discover the V270 mouse, and everything looks ok, but the mouse does not work. The mouse is even shown in Vista as working properly.

Does the BT355 module work better in Vista?

BTW, I have to agree with others here...Vista is pretty, but what are the real advantages? Having to learn all the in's and out's of Windows Explorer (desktop), plus it doesn't seem to be very intuitive (or is it just me?)...it's fun to play with, but at the end of the day, I just wanna slide my hard disk with XP back into my E1705.

I have the same issues with Bluetooth, I will file a bug about that later.

According to the Tom's Hardware link above, The 2.0 Merom is as fast as the Core 2 Duo E6400 according to my tests. That is quite impressive.

"Shared System Memory" and 7900GS

Is there a way to disable RC1 from gobbling up 255MB of my system memory for the video card pool on my 7900GS? At the moment I've just got 1gb ram and don't like the idea of Vista eating up 1/4 of it for the "Share System Memory" pool.

Inspiron 9300 running RC-1 with ReadyBoost enabled in internal SD reader.

I was having issues with getting ReadyBoost to run with my internal SD card reader, until I realized that my 1GB SD card was formatted as FAT. After reformatting to NTFS, it started working A-OK.

I’ve experimented with Beta 2 on a couple of occasions, actually using it in a production environment. I had to resort to Windows XP because of the numerous glitches, especially concerning network discovery.

Windows Vista RC-1 has definitely been improved very much since Beta 2, and I am sure that I will be using this release until it expires next June.

I do lots of web production work on our website using Windows Vista RC-1. It works excellent, and in a lot of cases, even more reliable than XP did. My biggest issue, however, is having to crash my firewall every time I need to access to my FTP client. I've read countless forums on how to fix the issue, but my problem is still apparent.

My reasonable specs include:
1.7 Ghz Centrino Processor
1GB RAM
80GB 7800RPM HD
NVidia 256MB 6800 Graphics

When we ordered the system, I asked the sales rep lady if it would work with a dual monitor setup, knowing that NVidia cards usually had no problem doing such a thing. She replied, "No, because laptops aren't powerful enough to handle that."

She was wrong.

So far so good, the only real problem i've had wth VISTA RC1, is my anti-virus (running symantec antivirus corp ed.) and everytime I log in, I keep getting the "program compatibility" issue... but the real problem is, I havent quite figured out how to turn the damn warning off. Other than that I havent had issues with my bluetooth, or the wireless. And i'm running RC-1 on dell XPS gen1

As one other person in this thread put it, Avast! Anti-Virus is compatible with Vista RC-1, and it works great on my machine. I've tried several others, only noticing severe system slow-down. Have had no problems with Avast!

I'm going to throw this out there, but does anyone know whether or not Vista RC-1, is a time based trial (like MS Office 2007 beta)?

Yes it is a time based trial - can't remmember when it expires but I think it's early 2007 around June.

@ "What is the RC1 Expiration?"

June 2007. What are your thoughts on RC-1 so far?
Well my thoughts so far... It's not too bad, I like how fast it installed, with the exception of a few program compatibility issues, it's worked well for me. The security enhancement are good, however I hate that when I try to run a program, it asks me 50,000,000 (over exaggeration) whether it's okay to run the program (and I'm logged in as admin). The other issue I have is, it’s still a resource hog… but I guess that comes with being windows

So I was running the 64 Bit- vista_5728.16387.060917-1430_x64fre_client-LRMCxFRE_EN_DVD.iso, and it was great, but the 64bit version had so many issue with installing anything. Kept saying these drivers do not have a signature and cannot install on 64bit. So I am wondering if the RC is any better, or am I just better of running the 32 bit version?
