Very low DVD burning speed with brandnew HP laptop!!!

Thread Starter
I've just bought HP Nx6320, T2400 (2x1.83GHz). I found some problems with this HP laptop:

1. Low burning speed?
I use built-in Sonic program to burn data to a
high quality DVD-R 4x (IMATION brand), but Sonic program shows
current writting speed is only 1.6X (while setting speed is 4X).
It takes about 40-58 minutes to complete a burn. It's terrible!
I have changed other blank DVDs brand, but the same results.

2. When I unplug laptop from AC power, I feel performance (speed)
is slower than when I plug it to AC power. How I can set/force the
laptop run in full power mode (maximum CPU/fan speed) using
battery power (It is very easy with Toshiba laptop with combination
Fn+F2 to switch between High power and Normal mode)?

3. Cannot disable/enable touch-pad?
When typing, I use external mouse and want to disable touch-pad, but I don't know how to do?

Thanks in advance,

do not know much about Sonic, but Nero uses to have a "bug" that would make it not looking at the "real" speed rad from optical drive firmware
do u have the latest optical driver/firmware? visit hp site, it is good with these dingy

check your power saving scheme, and may be set it as homepc/desktop (per example) to force the power always on
another possiblity is trying out NHC (notebook hardware control)

Thanks qhn,
1. Low burning speed?
When I use Nero 6 to check maximum speed, Nero shows that reading speed from source (my harddisk) is only 2.9X, so writing speed was reduced to 2.4X.
I don't know why because my HDD is not full? Do I need to install/upgrade SATA driver or something like that?

2. It's OK.

3. Now, I can disable/enable toubchpad by using Synaptic, but it takes too many steps.

Can I assign shortcut to toggle disable/enable touchpad like Fn + F9 on Toshiba laptop?

Ouch, that explains why since you can't write what you can't read. You need to look in Device Manager and find your Disk and Controller to see what they are set to. It sounds like something is out of whack.
