I suggest you DL the MS (notice, I didn't say "M$") Intellipoint Software. It's gonna do all that you ask, and more.....

I asked something similar but got no reply. I am using MCE and I understand that people are having a hard time with binding the PLAY button to starting an application, has someone gotten around that yet? I would like to do it without another software running in the background (i.e. Intellipoint) as I like QuickSet and don't see the need for another software that does the same thing.
Finally, I would like to take it a step further and have it start the application already minimized. You see, I want to be able to start iTunes minimized via the PLAY button so that it won't require me to stop the game in the middle.
Any ideas?

Its easy to do on the 9300/XPS2...If someone is willing to install quickset on their laptop and seeing if either holding the play button (say 3-5 seconds) or pressing (or maybe even holding) the mediadirect button launches mediadirect then we'd be gold. And by launches mediadirect, I mean the software mediadirect for windows that came preinstalled on 9300/XPS2...I can't test it anytime soon but I'll get back to this within a week.

What you need to do: Install quickset and start it up Copy the exe of the program you want to launch to DMX.exe and make sure its in the same directory as the original exe Use a template reg file like the ones below Example for winamp located in C:\\Program Files\\Winamp\\
Example for wmp located in C:\\Program Files\\Windows Media Player\\
Copy/modify this code into a reg and add it to the registry by double-clicking it or selecting merge On a laptop without the mediadirect button you must hold the play button On a laptop with the mediadirect button you can just press it QUICKSET MUST BE RUNNING Edit: And launching the program minimized all depends on how modular the program you use is. If there are arguments that you can add to the command to perform the task then sure its possible.
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\App Paths\\DMX.exe] @="C:\\\\Program Files\\\\WinAMP\\\\DMX.exe" "Path"="C:\\\\Program Files\\\\WinAMP"

Hi there,
Could anyone please help me solve the following problem?
Let me, first of all, inform you that I actually step by step followed the instructions put on one of the threads of this forum in order to install MediaDirect 3 with Windows Vista. Indeed, it worked perfectly! But then something went wrong when I recently ran a wrong upgrade/patch for my Dell printer 924 that I downloaded from the Dell's website in order to make my printer work with Vista. In fact, the upgrade/patch messed up with MediaDirect 3 and removed it from Windows. Now, the MediaDiect 3 botton is still working if I press the MediaDirect button when my laptop is turned off but MediaDirect 3 is not working anymore in Windows! I mean MediaDirect 3 is not opening anymore if I press the MediaDirect button or if I click on the MediaDirect icon on my desktop when my laptop is turned on!
As a matter of fact, I tried a system restore but it didn't help! And when I also tried to re-install MediaDirect 3 for Windows by running 'DELLKIT.EXE' after exploring the MediaDirect 3 DVD and after opening the folder 'DELLKIT' inside, I got a message saying 'MediaDirect is already installed on your PC. Please click Esc to exit'!
Do you have any idea about how I eventually can repair it and make it work again when the system is turned on i.e. with Windows Vista?
Thanks in advance and kind regards,
peteriiino
N.B. Additional information on the printer upgrade/patch I mentioned above.
