fujitsu n5010 questions

I'm looking to buy a laptop soon and was very pleased to see that fujitsu has such a great screen. To those here who have been using this laptop for awhile, how has your long term experience been? When was the n5010 released? If I were to buy one in the next month, would I likely get caught by a new laptop being released within weeks of my getting an n5010?

I play mostly RPGs, so screen refresh isn't as important as those who play FPS, but I do alot of photoshop. So I need a really good screen. My present laptop gets quite hot if I play games or use photoshop. How hot does the 5010 get when you're pushing it a bit.

Thanks,
Ceci

I think the N5010 was released in late December 2003, so I don't know that anyone has true long term experience. I don't have Photoshop, but do a significant amount of image manipulation in Photoshop Elements. I would have to say the laptop gets pretty warm, especially when it needs to load images from a disk. When installing programs or playing a DVD, it gets downright hot. I don't think I would want it on my lap in the summer. I actually use a board under the unit when it is on soft surfaces to keep the vents open so the machine can cool more efficiently.

How would you compare the screen to say the Dell UltraSharpTM Wide Aspect WUXGA active matrix screens...any comments on this would be amazing. As I am going to buy either the N5010 or the XPS.

I already replied to you in a different thread, but to sum it up, the N5010 is better for contrast and viewing angle than the Dell UltraSharp, but does not have the UXGA resolution (only comes in SXGA). For me, that was fine, because I think UXGA makes everything too small for my taste. I much prefer having the contrast (the deep blacks that you admire). When photo-editing, one has to be able to distinguish between many shades of black, such as to isolate black-haired people from a dark background, and a high contrast ratio makes that possible. I don't think I have read any posts on this forum that contend that the Dell screen is comparable to the Fujitsu. The general opinion of those on this forum who have looked at many screens is that Fujitsu Clear View, Sony X Brite, and Toshiba CASV are the reigning screens, with the Fujitsu possibly receiving more votes than any others. What this means is that you will probably have to compromise something, either with the taxes, price, or screen. I wanted the Pentium M processor for the battery life, but I decided the screen was more important to me. Everyone has their own priorities. Good luck!

Thanks, Now I have a full understanding of the screens... I was just a little confused about whether the Dell had the same dark blacks...

Good morning,
I've got a few comments as I've owned my N5 since about the first of January...
I will say the laptop can get warm, but I'm thinking thats because of the Pentium4800fsb with Hyperthreading.
It doesn't bother me.
I'd love to have this perfect crystal screen then to have the battery life, Because I will alwayas have an outlet.
But thats just me.

Cool. I'm starting to lean toward the 5010, though a couple of sagers are still on my short list. Was anyone able to order their n5010 without the floppy drive? I really would rather have something else...anything else there. I'm vacillating between either a better screen or the wide screen of the sager 4780. I just found out that the 16 inch screen of the 8890 isn't the 400:1 contrast ratio that the 15 inch is.

I have used N5 around two month and I like the screen very much. I use photoshop and some 3d program,it work great. If you want great screen go with N5. By the way it's quite heavy but I don't bother me, I bring it to school sometime and everybody who see it said that they never see good screen like N5 before also my friend who owned I8600.
