Yes that's what they are doing right now, all X1600 will be fix by new BIOS. In fact, they just email me the BETA BIOS Version 204T for W2JB, if anyone who owns W2JB please email me for the Beta BIOS and let us know what you think if it fix it. Also when request for BETA BIOS make sure you own a W2JB as the BIOS is only for W2JB. Z96J/S96J BIOS is on it's way soon.

First let me say thank you so much Ken for your efforts and persistence on this matter.

Can you confirm whether the updated BIOS for the Z96J will also include support for Merom? I really hope it does..

Yeah, thanks Ken for your efforts! Wasn't sure how long it would have taken them to resolve, but I'm very (pleasantly) surprised that it didn't take them long. If you can let us know when the W3J bios will be available, I can take care of the graininess issue as well as make mine Merom compatible at the same time.

-W3J, Z96J/S96J, W2JB, all notebooks has X1600 will be fix by it's new BIOS, I am not sure when will they have the BIOS for W3J but I think it won't take long, maybe sometimes next week, I'll let you guys know as soon as I receive the Beta verision from Asus.

Keeping my fingers crossed on this one.

Thanks for the legwork Ken, looks like you're the only retailer out there who actually took this issue seriously enough to do something about it on our behalf, even if just confirming that the issue exists would potentially hurt sales of affected units.

I was down in Anaheim running the Disneyland Half Marathon this weekend, so I just read about this. Thanks, Ken. I mean, seriously, this is huge for me. It means I really do have a notebook that I can begin just using without wondering if I'm going to need to part it out on EBay and get something else soon. I swear it even looks different sitting here on my desk.

I also have a S96J.

The grainyness on mine is not very pronounced, so I don't care. However, I started getting really BAD artifacting (shimmering red dots on any black surface). They are NOT related to heat. I can play games for hours without this appearing. It happens only on Windows desktop. Basically I was using it today and all black and dark blue elements started getting red dots shimmering all over. Closing and opening the lid "clears" them out momentarily but then they come back.

I uninstalled Omega drivers for ATI, and with default windows drivers it was fine. I am now using the ATI drivers from Asus's support site (I must also comment on just how extremely slow all their driver mirrors are, unacceptable).

I think the issue is fixed now. (I was using it to play Company of Heroes for a few hours and no issues, Windows desktop is also clean.)

Either way I would appreciate an update on this BIOS problem.

Edit: Nope, the problem came back. I may have to use my warranty on this, I am very very disappointed.

The issue CAN NOT be captured on screenshot. i.e. If I take a screenshot it will not display.

This grainyness issue affecting some of the ASUS notebooks scares the hell out of me.. considering the investment involved..

its not just ASUS. its the windows/ati x1600 combination. its has been well documented by ASUS owners though so the focus is on ASUS computers.
