Ken, help help, we need your help !

I tried twice to contact technical support of ASUS France.
I sent them a descrption of the problem, with a link to this thread, telling them
- the issue is recognized by ASUS
- and ASUS is able to solve it
since ASUS did solve it for some laptops models in the US.

Unfortunately, I got an answer on "how to flash the BIOS" !

I replied that it was NOT my question, and redevelopping all arguments to ask from ASUS a new BIOS.

A second time, almost the same answer on how to flash BIOS (and moreover, even the explanation is not correct....)

So, if you are not able to receive by yourself the new BIOS from ASUS, could you please give us the coordinates of people you are in contact with in ASUS, and a summarize of arguments you developped to convince them that
1 - it's a bug
2 - they must solve it
3 - they can solve it.

Yes, Ken, you have something to add !

As I said in my previous post (just above), please help us providing :
- the coordinates of people you are in contact with in ASUS,
- and a summarize of arguments you developped to convince them that
1 - it's a bug
2 - they must solve it
3 - they can solve it.

Thank's
Laurent

1 - it's a bug : I told them already and they know it.
2 - they must solve it : They will and they are working on it.
3 - they can solve it. : Yes just add the new VGA BIOS into the original BIOS just like what they did to W3J and S/Z96J.

I just don't know the status of it, but if I hear anything from them I'll let you know.

Hi guys, I'm also an owner of this V1J, the glossy WXGA screen version one. And yes, it's grainy and the colors are terrible.

My retailer has warned me about this when I purchased it, but they promised that ASUS will fix (at least) the grainness problem.

However while I'm browsing to find a solution to this, I find reviews on V1Js with non glossy WSXGA+ screens (ooh if only I could find one). They say the screen is fantastic. Does it mean that those lappies are not affected by this grainness issue? Is it the panel that cannot be driven by X1600? Because I tested the VGA out on a flat panel, it's not grainy at all, and the sharp colors make me shocked on how terrible V1J screen is.

...and I used to be an owner of Fujitsu N3510, a lappie with one of the best screens around... now I miss my old lappie that heated itself to death T_T

Sorry for the noob ignorance. I've downloaded the file for the s/z96j. When I double click it, it says windows cannot open this file. I don't have nero, does that have anything to do with it? What do I have to do to make this work? I'm not experienced with this at all, and only very clear step by step will help me. PMing me is alright if someone wants to help me out. I have the s96j and would like to fix my graininess issue, but alas, I am lost. Again I apologize for my ignorance.

Can you find Winflash?
In my lappie it's located here: C:\Program Files\ASUS\WinFlash\winflash.exe

Use it to do on-the-fly BIOS flash ^^

you should have a program called WinFlash, which will update your BIOS. Start WinFlash, select the file, and click Flash BIOS. that's it!

I don't remember seeing S96J/Z96J drivers disk comes with WinFlash, but you can download it here:

ftp://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/A..._XP_060612.zip

And then download the ROM file of the beta BIOS:

I have a V1J with the non glossy the 1680x1050 res and I have the same problem ;o(

I have an other problem and maybe you could give me some help. Then fan is always in action. It turns on just after I press the power on button and it never stops. Is it normal ? Can I do something to fix this problem. The temp of my proc is 50°C after 2 hours. I try NHC but it's the same thing.

Thanks a lot for your help

It worked perfectly, and now screen looks great. Thanks so much lightisbright, Djembe, and Ken. I'm a greenhorn to this stuff and would not have been able to get it right without your help. Kudos to all of you, and thanks for your willingness to help out a computer illiterate. You guys rock, and now my s96j screen rocks too!

Cool, I hope those BIOSes fix the graininess in F3Ja & V1J. Do you think those BIOSes include support for Merom also?
