I am sure it also supports Merom.

Ken, you are THE best ! I've just flashed my BIOS (on F3JA), and it works perfectly ! All graininess is gone away ! You know what ? I'm happy ! Thank you VERY MUCH for your help. It was very profitable ! Do you think that ASUS will publish a "final version" of this BIOS (instead of Beta) ? And if yes, do you have an idea of how long it will take be fore release ? And if you get some news, keep us inform on this thread. Bye, and once again, thank you !

OK, so it's confirmed now that both BIOS fixes are OK. I'm happy too to know that.

Hey thanks for the BIOS! It fixes the grainness!

But the colors are still terrible though... so it's the monitor that's not so good. Mine is the lousiest one, the WXGA glossy.

Do you guys think I might be able to order a WSXGA+ non glossy panel and have the local service center replace the panel?

But at least now I'm not ashamed to bring it out ^^ Thanks Ken ^^

THANKS KEN !!!!!!!!!!!!

No more grain on the screen with this BIOS on a V1J, it's wonderful !!!

I'm trying to install the new bios using the appropriate utility on an F3Ja... well, nothing happens! The system switches off without rebooting and no bios update screen appears at the following startup...
I've successfully updated 3 bios till now... this one does not work... any idea?
Did you use Winflash to update the BIOS? What's the latest BIOS in your F3Ja before you tried to update to the graininess-fixed beta BIOS?
of course i did use winflash 2.18! I even tried to download the latest version, but was already 2.18. Mu bios is now ver. 2.05, the one downloaded from asus website...
It's really wiered! Till this version the utility made my pc di reboot (not switch off...) and than the bios flash utility will start up and install the new ROM. Now the pc simply shutoff and then, as soon as i switch it on I get a classical boot...

Are you an Indo by any chance?
What do you mean with it? Indo=Indian? I'm Italian and I've the italian version of F3Ja (meaning italian keyboard and... and ? ... don't think they differ for much more... the software language, but about hardware they are the same...). The bios is of course in english!
Winflash reports that the bios is valid and let me update it... but it does nothing!

Hi Antonio,
Winflash makes only some checks that the Bios you want to load is valid, and more recent than current Bios. If all is OK, it makes a copy of the BIOS in C:\\F3Ja.BIN and stops the computer.
And it's all !
Then you have to switch on again, and during reboot press F2 to go to Bios, and here click on the second menu (if I remember well..) and option "Update Bios" (or something like that). Or you can press F4 (instead of F2) at boot time to go directly to BIOS flash utility.
Here, you can browse your HD, select C:\\F3Ja.BIN, and launch "Flash Bios".

And it works, I did it !

Agree with you that none of these steps are described in ASUS documentation...

I solved the problem: in order for winflash to work the option NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation must be disabled! Otherwise (without 8.3 names) the bios utility is unable to properly readan NTFS volume
Now everything works fine... grainness seems to be gone... MUCH nicer display now! :-D

Anyone else see that Asus released a new W3J BIOS on their public FTP site?

ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/W3J/W3J210AS.zip

Anyone else try this 210 version yet?

I think it's the Beta BIOS 209A with different name.

Just want to share
I use older version of BIOS (3311) on my travelmate 8200 and guess what, grainy screen is gone.
It changes my default clock from 475:468 to 450:500 and reduces 3d mark about 100 point. which i dont care, I use 510:513 for gaming anyway

works with a F3Jp?

Hello, I live in Hong Kong. My model is a F3Jp, and i think it has the same problem which you would refer to as a "grainy issue", but I probably can't risk updating the BIOS using the F3Ja's version.
I read your post and sent an email to Asus's support in Taiwan and so far no reply yet.
So would any one here kind enough to help me with my F3Jp?

For your reference, its with a X1700 graphics chip not a X1600, which is an updated version of the X1600 i think.
It has pretty cool game performances.
Oh, so the F3Jp (and X1700) has the graininess issue also? And yes I don't think F3Ja's BIOS update will suit the F3Jp. I'm sorry I can do anything to help you... what do you think, Ken?

Don't risk flash F3JA BIOS on your F3JP, I am 100% it's not compatible, I'll talk with Asus regarding F3JP.
