Heya guys, I have a A6JA and I have noticed a similar problem to what you guys have been talking about over the past 17 pages.

I've read through pretty much all of it but I couldnt see news on any updates for my model
Just wondering if there has been any progress on this as yet, Thanks

ps, Sorry in advance if this has already been answered, Thanks

Hi everybody,

Apparently, many persons who bought F3J and V1J (Core 2 Duo models) have a fan wich is constantly in action.

Ken, like the graininess problem, could you please contact Asus to make a BIOS update to change the control fan or an other mean to stop this annoying problem.

Thank you !!!

Unlike the screen graininess, the fan is not a problem (at least not according to Asus): it's supposed to be on all the time. There are several other models that are set up the same way.

Thank you, Ken. You seem to have good connection with Asus in your region.

Look, I don't think the team in Taiwan can answer my question straightly, or it's a fact that they knew it was a technical defect, since usually they have fast response time but this time it has been around a few days already.

Here're some pics that I've taken on the grainiess on my Asus F3Jp's LCD:

see the particles in between those Chinese characters?

white is perfectly ok, but i feel sorry for gray.

See this is what you refer as a 'grainy' situation. Note that the first 2 pics were taken from an angle panning upwards and the last one from a normal angle, the effect of which what i think the graininess is much reduced.

Yes that's the exact grainy issue we've seen on X1600 video cards, we don't have A8JP in the US, I'll try to contact them to see if something can be done. Update: I just request BIOS update for A8JP, like other models, we now just have to wait.

Sorry Ken, but sugarbear's notebook is F3Jp, not A8Jp?

They are getting good at fixing graininess issues.

Thank you Ken..

The problem's solved and the LCD monitor looks great as the graininess disappeared .

and yes, I'd say I agree that they're getting fast at fixing this issue.
It took me 4 or 5 days to receive the first reply from the technical support unit, and since the problem was not fixed due to the old version BIOS they sent me, I quickly dropped another email to them. It took less than 24 hours or so to get me another reply with the same version that Ken had brought in...what a thrill~
You're just as fast as ASUS themselves . I sent one to reply your PM too.
And, aroaro you can try this out with your F3Jp too.

ok - since is an "official" version - i'll try it
(book is brand new and pricey to me ....)

Congratulations! I am glad to hear that the BIOS fixed it. On the PM I sent you is bcause Asus want me to ask you about external monitor and driver version, I didn't think that's the problem but since they want to know so I just ask for them. They did ask me who did you contact and they want to know why it takes 4~5 days for them to reply, I told them you contaced Taiwan and they didn't say anything.

Anyone here know of an update for Macs? I have a MacBook Pro with the graininess issue as well. It has the ATI x1600 Mobility in it. Does Apple have to fix this or is there a user based fix that I can apply.
I think you have to ask Apple to fix it. BIOS update is just for the specific notebook it is intended.

Is Ken's BETA BIOS version 1101 for S96J/Z96J the same as :
http://downloadmirror.intel.com/df-s...JBIOSv1001.zip ? (9/22/2006)
Is there a way to update the BIOS for MacBook Pro computers (running Windows XP with Bootcamp) which have the same grainy issue with X1600?

Thanks.

I don't think there is... Next time you buy a notebook, consider an ASUS...
