Hello Ken

Thank you for this interesting procedure with the CD.

I didn’t need to use it. As I said in my first message, I directly used the native flash procedure of the BIOS of the Asus Z53JA (= F3JA). I flashed with this method using your file ‘F3JA206.ROM’ which was directly on C:\. Everything worked fine… and now I can enjoy my photos without grain. What a pleasure!!!

Thanks Ken!

All the best.

Michel

And for F3JA, do you have infos on availability of final (non beta) bios ?

Hi, Ken
Can you recommend someone who could do Acer owners as great a favour as you did to Asus ones?
Acer support seems to be even moge vague than that of Asus.
I can't think of any way how to force them even to start considering that problem.
Thnx

I was just looking into getting an Asus laptop when I found out about the graininess issue... Since ASUS says it's "not a problem", I just have to "get used to it",

But I have tested it myself and I must say I dont notice it at all during normal usage, only if you realy look for it. I dont think you would regret buying this notebook anyway.

Its no actual problem is just a specification that some users arnt used to.

I wanted to ask here: Can I get a F3J or V1J with an ATI card and use the BIOS from this thread, and get the issue resolved?

...also, I haven't been able to find out, is this issue with only X1600, so if I get an X1700 I'm safe anyway?

I am sorry I don't have contacts with Acer, but according to a forum member Acer has updated BIOS that fixed his graininess problem:

Yes you can download the BIOS I posted on the first page, it fixed F3JA, F3JP and V1J.

It works! GenTechPc you saved my x1600-based-notebook owner life :P !! Thank you so much Ken, really! The F3JA bios you sent to me worked perfectly and in a matter of minutes I finally had my graininess problem fixed! I wish Asus staff could be so kind, fast and useful as you proved to be

Thank you again so much, best wishes from Italy!

Hello all!
Afew comments about the new bios found here...

First of all, I have a F3Ja (one week old now) with T5600 cpu and updated with the latest Ati Catalyst driver (6.12) and MS Media player 11.
So there was the graininess problem offcourse. Clearly visible when browsing and scrolling the web pages even. Really annoying. I upgraded to the latest Asus bios (2.07), but there was no cure.
Then I downloaded and "downgraded" with this beta 2.06 found here AND IT WORKED!

But...

I see that the GPU and graphics memory has been overclocked close to 450/400MHz with this beta bios. Quite a bit more, than the original figures that is.
So I did some benchmarking with 3D Mark 05...

Original best result, Asus bios 2.07: Overall 3D score ~3910 / CPU score ~5750

Beta bios 2.06:
Power4Gear setting / 3D score / CPU score
"Quiet office" / 3807 / 3620
"Precentation" / 3806 / 3620
"Game" / 4112 / 5758
"High speed" / 4113 / 6055 !
"Super speed" / 4115 / 5762

These kind of figures boosted the graphics speed out of it's league to the next. The computer (in graphics) is now scoring better than all other computers with Ati X1600 and Intel T5X00 cpu.
What really concerns me is, thet it scores better than most of the computers with T7X00 cpu! It's actually the second fastest on the list!!!
And all this after installing the beta bios.

My question is, will I burn up my graphics adapter with this kind of speed?!
I really am afraid this is too much now allthough the grainyness is gone.

I have the F3Ja which I have had about a week and I flashed to the bios linked here and it works a treat.

To the user above that posted about the clock increase, it's not an issue.

Default clocks before I flashed were 445/346 which resulted in a 3dmark05 score of 3,749. Default clocks after I flashed are now 445/391 which results in a 3dmark05 score of 3,936.

Only the memory clock has increased and then by not much, though the increase is a nice bonus. I have tested mine using atitool upto 521/418 which gave me a score of 4,359 so I know 445/391 is not a problem and shouldn't be a problem for you. The default for the memory on this version of the X1600 mobility is 400 anyway so 391 is still under that.

That's good to hear! Thanks!
I have this paranoya, because I fried up my previous notebook (Fujitsu) just by updating drivers... !

Oh yes, a lot ! I already thank you, ken, for your help, but it's with pleasure that I renew my thanks !
And now, I rely on you to help us to get a FINAL (not Beta) Bios for F3JA.
