X1600 Grainness issue update from Intel - Page 18

Hello,
Nice to know that the graining issue is resolved for you also.
How do you measure the temperature of the VGA?
For the fan speed, I personally did not notice too much difference after using this beta bios.
For me it not running so high all the time. It only goes high sometimes especially at the startup or when for example the virus scanner is runnig.
I already have a laptop cooler, but I am not using it currently with this notebook.

If you would like you can try free tool called Notebook Hardware Controller (NHC). This is not only monitoring tool but it also allows you to control CPU and graphic card frequency, as well as fan speed using ACPI file for F3jp.

I would not discuss the details of that here, because that would be off topic here.
If you need more details about Notebook hardware controller send me private message.

Also let them know that if they keep ignore or unaware of the graininess problems I can report it to Taiwan headquarter that their Europe support team needs improve. Here is newer Beta BIOS version 205 if you want to try, I was told by Asus it also fix the graniness problem, he couldn't tell me what exactly does it fix besides the graininess since there are too many beta BIOS for many models: http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/images/N...F3JpAS.205.ZIP
Hi Ken, Some good news for you and other F3jp users in this forum. ASUS Germany finally started to recognize the problem after I have sent them around 10 emails about this issue.

Today, they have sent me a new bios version v205.t1 which works fine. It does resolve the graininess problem. I have already installed it and tested it. It seems to be different than the beta v205 version that you provided here. Here is a link for the new bios for F3JP notebook: http://rapidshare.com/files/15406405/F3JP205.rar Maybe Ken can add it to the first page of this thread for the easier access.

Hello Laurent Grenet, It seems like the problem is originating somewhere in Taiwan. It seems the local ASUS branches does not get all the information about all the errors from Headquarters. ASUS Germany is also running an unofficial site (www.asustreiber.de). I have been also in contact with the administrator there. He works for ASUS Germany. He told me that it was not their mistake that they did not provide me before with correct answers, but it was Taiwan's mistake that they did not get the complete information from them. I have also informed him that custumers in France are also facing the same problem. I don't know if he would do anything about it. I will report here if I get an update for you.

ASUS Germany notebook support Website.

Hello guys,

I think this could be very useful information for many of you.
ASUS notebook support in Germany is running an Unofficial website that actually contains much recent information than what you will get from ASUS official website.
It is a very good source for the latest ASUS drivers and software for notebooks.

Here is the link:
http://www.asustreiber.de

The website is in German, but still it is not difficult to find the download section as it is called Downloads.

They have recently put some download restrictions due to high amount of traffic. So guest can download 5 files per day and member 25 files.

Hello. I'm from Romania like you and I have a A6KT-Q092 notebook with X1600(M56) graphic card. Unfortunately I have the same problem . My BIOS version is the last(2.07) and also I've the latest drivers for all the components of my notebook(it was a realy adventure until I get the ATI latest driver, because they not exist on the ASUS driver page, and ATI does not have technical suport for ASUS notebooks. More then abition to have latest drivers, NFS Carbon does not rules with drivers provided by ASUS). So... I've request the ASUS suport, but they are idiots. When I mailed ASUS asking them if they were working on a BIOS update for the A6KT solving this problem, I got this reply(the 3rd reply ): Sorry, there is no new vBIOS for your laptop, I think maybe your problem is a hardware problem so I suggest you contact the local service center for help. I'm afraid that I can not give you the VBIOS for the moment, maybe the local service center can check your laptop and help you solve the problem I think. Sorry for the inconvenience. Wish you a nice day. What can we do!? Can OPC Bucharest get help in this problem? My yahoo ID is leoc980 @ yahoo.com

Hi leoc980, Maybe it's a side effect of Romania entrance in EU, but you get in Romania an Asus support as stupid as it is in France or apparently also in Germany ! What can you do ? Pray God, or maybe more efficient in such a case, pray Ken Lee from GentechPc : It's clearly (and uniquely) thanks to his efforts that we've been able to get temp Bios for a lot of ASUS laptops fixing graininess issue. Hi Ken, still a little effort, and you'll make a new guy happy !

I'll try my best, in fact I just request the BIOS fix, I was told that their R&D are very busy right now, hopefully it won't take long. Also they will be celebrating Chinese new year soon, all business will be closed in Taiwan for I think 10 days.

WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOT USE THE W2J BIOS IF YOU ARE UPGRADING TO A MERON CPU.
I INSTALLED A T7400 WITH THOSE BIOS AND IT DID NOT BOOT!
I MUST HAVE SWAPED THE CPUS ABOUT 10 TIMES, RE-FLASHED BIOS ABOUT 4 TIMES AND REINSTALLED THE OS TWICE!!!

does anyone know when and updated bios that will fix graininess and be compatable with merom for W2J?

This is some how similar to what has happened here in Germany. But I did not surrender to the situation; I made it clear to the ASUS support in Germany that such stupid replies are not acceptable. I made it clear to them that the problem is know to ASUS Taiwan and ASUS USA, and I told them it's the duty of German branch to provide me with real support. I gave them links to Forums that discuss the problem. It took more than 10 emails. Finally my hard work did pay off. Now the German branch is no more living in the DARK AGES. Now they know that this problem exists and they are providing the solution to people. I don't know if the whole support team here is aware of it but at least two persons know about it. Actually the support person later told me that this is a fault from Taiwan that the people from over there were giving him wrong answers. So he told me that he actually copied my posts from different forums and sent it to Taiwan headquarters and than Taiwan directed him to the right people over there who knew about the issue. So my suggestion to all of you in different EU countries is that you should not surrender to the situation, just stand up and make it very clear to your local ASUS branch that they have to provide you with a solution to the existing problem. Maybe give them email of their German collogues (tsd_germany@asus.com), and I think the German branch should tell them that this is an existing problem. I can give you the name of the German support person who knows about it, but only through PM. I don't want to past the names here. I don't think you will get support directly from German team, because they provide support to only Germany and Austria, but as I said contact your local branch and provide them with email and name of German support persons with whom your local branch should contact. Good luck.

Good new for EU ASUS users.

Hello guys,

I have forwarded your message to the ASUS support in Germany.
I have contacted the administrator called Kurim of the ASUS unofficial website (www.asustreiber.de) which is actually run by ASUS support team here in Germany.

I told him that lot of people around EU are suffering because their local ASUS branch does not recognize grainy screen issue.

This is the reply I got today from my ASUS contact (Kurim) here in Germany:

i have forward the info to ASUS NL, ASUS CZ, ASUS IT, ASUS IB, ASUS UK.

hope they use it.

I personally hope also that they will use this information to help the people there.

Hi, I think you tried to flash using Winflash. Winflash does not allow you downgrade in version. You can use the flash utility in bios to flash the bios. So here goes the procedure to flash. I give an example of flashing F3JP with v205 to make things clearer. In order to flash your F3jp notebook with this bios do following: 1- Put the bios file F3JP205 directly under root directory C. 2- Restart your computer. 3- At the startup press F4, this should start the flash utility directly. No need for Winflash and no need to go to bios by pressing F2. You can start the utility directly by F4. 5- Under the flash utility navigate to root directory C. 6- Select the file F3JP205. 7- Then just select to flash it. 8- After a successful flash the computer will shut down. 9- Restart the computer. 10- Press F2 to go to the bios. 11- Load the manufacturer default setting. 12- Save the settings and exit. It is important that you restore the default manufacturer setting after flash otherwise sometime Windows XP can crash after you restart your PC for the first time. Windows may say that it has found new hardware. In that case usually it will install the drivers automatically, if not than provide it with your driver CD. Good luck.

Hi, I have "a little" question - did bios update version 205t1 for Asus F3JP notebook really fix the graininess issue totally or only soften this phenomenon? I am talking about it because I have seen today a Toshiba 's notebook Tecra A7 on ATI x1600 gpu and I did a little test on it - I set a green colour (the color just under red colour in Background Settings at Desktop Preferences ) I saw a "dithered" green colour in place of the green one. That same situation was with grey colour. I think that is something wrong with that ATI gpu chipset and not with notebook manufacturers and new bioses. What is changed in that tweaked bioses that the graininess is fixed?

And a second issue - I have noticed that all new Toshiba notebooks A100 series (at least in Poland) has either integrated graphic or nvidia go 7600 gpu? Maybe it is just related with that ATI gpu problems?
