The latest BIOS version is 1201 on page one work for both S96J and Z96J. You don't need bootable CD to update, thanks to Turbogear's trick. 1:Just unzip the file and place the BIOS file to your C: root directory, example C:\\S96J.ROM 2: Open WinFlash and browse the BIOS file from your C:\\ and click flash. 3: Windows will reboot to Aflash program in DOS mode and it'll start to flash BIOS automatically (Don't turn off the computer during BIOS flash) 4: When it's done the computer will reboot by itself and press F2 to enter BIOS when you see the Intel logo. 5 Press F10 to save and exit.

Hi Ken thanks for your reply, what's the difference between Bios 1101 , I mean history changes, from that release on to 1201.

What's all this about Turbogear's trick I wouldn't really like the lap to freeze on windows while flashing it's bios, how does winflash actually work? it will actually do the flashing procedure within windows?

I just update BIOS from 1104 to 1201 and I can't tell the difference. As they mention on 1201 BIOS of updated CPU uCode, I guess it has to do with future CPUs.

Kay but Ken I mean from 1101 to 1104 at least is there any subtle difference?

Hi ken how can I backup bios before flashing to the newer one. I'm using aflash2.exe method I don't really trust winplash through windows. Please let me know. If I'm not mistaken aflash2.exe let's you downgrade if needed ,while winphlash doesn't let you downgrade a tall.

You don't need to backup BIOS as you can always download the older version and save it on your computer.

You can downgrade BIOS by add a switch /Force
Example:

aflash2 /auto:96J1101.ROM /force

Hi Ken, I think this method works on many if not all of the ASUS notebooks. Actually I saw this on the ASUS support website in the section on Technical documents, but I cannot lacate it anymore. It is still described somewhere on ASUS website.

Ken I just need to know how to save the actual bios on my lap the one I got which is 1101.

aflash2 /auto:S96J1201.ROM /force < that will force flashing the new bios and I will loose the other one.

I think Ken already answered this question. You can always downgrade to an older version, by just downloading the older version from ASUS and than using the dos bios flash procedure that Ken and I have described before.

You don't need to save BIOS, you can always download it here:
http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/images/N...us/96J1101.ROM

so when you want to flash back to the older BIOS to 1101 you just need to use this command:

aflash2 /auto:S96J1101.ROM /force

A GIFT from ASUS Germany

Hello guys,

ASUS Germany got very happy from my good intentions to help them to find the Graininess problem.
They told me that my step by step description helped them to get the right answers from Taiwan.

They have just sent me a small gift to thank me for all the effort I did to convince them that this was actually a bios problem.
I received from them for free a 1GB flash memory disk.

Cool! also tell them your laptop needs more RAM and you lack of HD space.

Actually there is such option.

If you still have the bootable CD I made then go ahead boot up your laptop with the CD, at A prompt type: aflash2 and press enter.
you'll see 2 options:

1. Save Current BIOS to file
2: Update BIOS to Flash Memory

Enter choice [ ]

Enter 1 and press enter to backup your BIOS.

Can someone please explain how I flash my FJ3P with the 205 bios. After I un-rared it the file is FJ3P.205, isn't a bios file meant to be a .rom? What am I missing here?

Also my adapter is the x1700 will this bios work for this as well as the x1600?

thanks
