I'm hanging out for the release from ASUS preferably over the Intel support. Hopefully Ken is able to get back to us with news on progress soon.

I just got the beta BIOS today.

so im guessing the bios that was released was a different one (i.e. not meant to address these issues)

I just tested the beta BIOS, I think it's fixed but again, it's only a beta.

Here is the BETA BIOS version 1101 for S96J/Z96J in Nero Image file:

1: Download NERO image files: http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/images/N...s/96J_1101.nrg
2: Use Nero to burn the image file to the CD
3: Insert CD and when first power on the laptop press "ESC" at Intel logo screen
4: Select Optical drive at boot options screen
5: at "A:\" prompt type "Update" and press "Enter".
6: it'll automatically update the BIOS and don't turn off or reset the computer during BIOS flash.
7: screen will go back to "A:\" prompt when finish
8: restart the computer and then hold F2 to enter BIOS, press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
9:Boot to Windows, it'll start to find all kinds of new hardwares.

You might need to re-adjust the resolution and reinstall some of the drivers, so just insert the drivers disk and let windows automatically find the drivers.

It's a beta so if you experience any problems that's normal and it'll be fix by the official release version, but I haven't see any problems yet.

I was able to compare 2 Z96J side by side with and without BIOS update, I am now confirmed that the graininess issue is fixed.

Gone in Sonic CinePlayer while watching DVDs. Nothing compared to how movies will look when we're watchd HD content, but watching movies is more than acceptable on this thing now.

the old VGA BIOS was A050504.008, new VGA BIOS: A050504.009, and yes, the new 1101 BIOS also supports Merom.

THANK YOU!!!

Well, I shouldn't be dancing with joy until I install it and test it myself, but I trust a couple of the posters here who have and whooooo hoooo!

I'll be testing it myself tonight.

Thanks again, Ken. I'm personally shocked that they released the computers with this problem initially, especially considering how easily / fast they were able to fix it when it was brought to their attention, but I'm just SO Glad it is.

Now, my laptop would be perfect... if I hadn't snapped off the outer part of my headphone jack *sigh*.

So Ken, if I buy the S96j form Gentech.com, will you guys install the new bios update? I can update it myself but I don't want to risk messing up and voiding the warranty. And how long does it take to deliver to Canada?
