Dates to Shipping to Heaven!!

Hey all,

I have been trying to make "mental" note of when many of you say you placed your orders - from when you mention you ordered to when it is shipped and when you say you have your hands on your machine.

I am and have been VERY interested in getting an AW and have been doing some serious research b4 making a decision. If i do get one, i am looking at the 9700 - would love the mALX, but the cost and the time frame are not too appetizing. (Although, i priced the 9700 and it is about at the "given" price of the MALX!!! (but that priced out at about 6500 for me - all decked out!!)

However, it seems for some of you it is taking a ridiculously long time to get your machines. Overall, would you say that you were satisfied with the time frame? Was it "on schedule" as per the "7 days shipping" that AW (Dell) advertises?

i talked with a salesperson and "of course" they say that the 9700's have been shipping in 7 days b/c it is such a popular product that they are pretty much making sure that they are on schedule, due to the demand. Would you agree with this or he was just trying to blow smoke up..well, you know where?

my m5550 reached phase 4 on the projected ship date (8/28) and that same day i updated my order with a new processor and its gone nowhere since then

some people get their AW's right on schedule and some people get screwed. So my advice is get the lappy but dont be surprised if they completely miss the projected ship date

as for 9700s getting priority i dont know really, but Hammerhead's took almost 4 months for some reason

Hammerhead's took a long time because he waited for the 512MB version of the 7900GS video cards to be offered...

there seems to be VAST differences in when people get their lappys. kinda scares me, but i would really like to get an Alienware b4 Dell completely destroys the company! I was quite depressed when i heard Dell was buying it...i have had 2 computers (one laptop and one desktop) from them and had them both for a week before returning them and getting my money back!!

I am both a female gamer and a computer instructor and need the laptop soon - for work and more importantly, for the games that i have recently bought (FEAR, etc. (smile)) - although i do have a "nearly" working laptop now and a desktop (the desktop can handle the new games i got, but it is not an Alienware, if you know what i mean) - i guess i just REALLY REALLY REALLY want anAlienware but in the time frame they pose on the order page!!

but, haste does makes waste - i got the Dell desktop wayyyyy before the estimated ship date and i had "customized" it too!! i guess they had one laying around somewhere with the specs i needed and shipped that piece of crap to me - instead of checking it out first!!!

I just hope they don't mess up Alienware - but over time, most merged companies do "change"

Ordered my m5750 on 9/4, went to Phase 3 on 9/5 - still Phase 3 today and waiting for an e-mail response to a query over status sent on 9/10 (with an automatic response indicating a reply within 72 hours). The "ship date" when it was ordered was 9/11 (2 days ago) and the site currently indicates 9/25 if you were to build and order today. Just finished a "live sales chat" and was told my real status is Phase 3 and there are no indicated OOS or other issues, but no reason given for 9 days of Phase3. Not a good start for a $4000+ experience!

I have to chuckle at the title of this thread.

BTW, Dell is not going to destroy Alienware. If anything, Alienware will be better for it.
