DELL30"LCD works eith e1705? Full Res?

Thread Starter
Hey does anyone know if the e1705 with a 6800go will display full resolution to a dell 3007 monitor?

Hey also... i have an old 2405... is there much of a diffrence with the newER 2407???

You can find out more about 2405vs 2407 on:

http://hardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=78

There appears to be issues with the 2407 and there's a debate whether an 03version has solved problems over 01/02. Even without problems, I doubt it's a worthwhile upgrade. You might as well look into a 30".

As for the 30", AFAIK 1710 doesn't support it. The 9300 with 6800go regular, one guy on here had it working. If you really want to make all that effort to try it, aquire the two devices, install them, and take your lappy to your local Comp USA or Apple store and try it on the Apple 30".

btw....i have a 2407 A02...its perfectly fine. (factory installation required firmware fixes started on A02.)

The XPS gen 2/M170 will definitely not work, my XPS gen 2 also did not work with the geforce go 6800 vanilla. My M1710 with the geforce go 7900 gs also does not work, but atleast doesnt have the issues my M170 had, it is detected as single link and works fine. My XPS gen 2 was detected as dual link but I just got lines in the screen.

I doubth the 7900 gtx or any other of dell laptops will do it, the guy who had a working 9300 with geforce go 6800 who said it worked stopped responding to my PM's and I havent really seen him since, so I take what he said with a grain of salt.

reviving the thread from the dead in some hopes:

Has anyone tried to run it at that res with the lid closed? meaned the video card is not trying to run the laptop LCD as well?
That has nothing to do with it, the laptop screen uses LVDS, the 3007WFP uses Dual link TMDS, the 7900 gs is single link TMDS, it will drive a 3007WFP but only @ 1280x800, if dell was smart and made a 36 Hz mode then it could be driven at the full res @ 36 Hz, I actually have driven as high as 3840x2400 from the DVI on the 7900 gs but only at 17 Hz.

DUAL DVI LINK CARD IS THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE THIS WORK!!

Sorry about the caps, but its all over the Dell website..

Please no need to yell, we are all friends here (right?). And while you maybe frusturated with me raising a question which has been looked @ with a microscope. I would like to point to following out (please stay with me its a long one but I thing it will be worth your time):

Macbook Pro is the ONLY laptop we know of that can run the 30" displays has a Radeon X1600. If you go to the ATI site here and scroll to the bottom you will see that it says:
Quote:
Dual integrated dual-link DVI transmitters. DVI 1.0 compliant / HDMI interoperable and HDCP ready

Now is we take a look at the nVidia site for graphics cards, and compare the tech specs on the 7950 regular regular and mobile (go). Under the Advanced Display Functionality for the regular it specifically mentions
Quote:
Dual-link DVI capability
however the mobile one doesn't

Finally we get to ATI's decription of the x1400 mobile here which is offered with the E1705 from Dell. Now they specifically mention:
Quote:
Dual integrated dual-link DVI transmitters. DVI 1.0 compliant / HDMI interoperable and HDCP ready

Combining all of this logic unless someone with x1400 tried to hook up this monitor I would venture a guess that it might work. (At least I am hoping it will otherwise you might see a 3007WFP for sale soon )

Yeah written all over the dell site for the 3007WFP but it is not written at all on whether their laptops are dual-link or not.

As for yegoshin:

well on the ATI its obvious that they are just copynig the specs from the desktop page because what laptop has Dual Dual-link DVI ports? I dont know any laptops which even have Dual DVI...

As for the nvidia mobile page you listed:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/go_7_series_techspecs.html

It says nowhere about being dual link on it.

Okay everyone back from the dead.......sooooo the 7950 GO..dual link for #$%^ sake!?!?! anyone know?

"Advanced Display Functionality
. Dual integrated 400MHz RAMDACs for display resolutions up to and including 2048x1536 at 85Hz
.Full NVIDIA nView multi-display technology capability"

call Dell, insist on someone who speaks ENGLISH, and tell them what video card you have, and THEY will tell you if its a DVI-Dula Link card.
If its not, it WON"T DISPLAY AT FULL RES WITH THIS MONITOR..

good luck finding someone from dell who actually knows.

The only lappy's that work with the 30" display today are the Apple's. I am not sure if anyone out there has gotten the Apple Dual Link DVI + 30" + Windows to work but I don't see why it wouldn't.

The video cards on the Dells, etc. do not have the physical plug to do the Dual Link DVI! I am waiting for one and then I'll be getting the 30"!

It is not that the laptop's do not have the plug needed. The port is the same just it does not have DUAL TMDS chips on the graphics card (or possibly motherboard) since its a laptop

E1705, M90, M1710 will only display 1200x800 on 3007 series monitors. M1730 does support dual link though.

I use 3007wfp w/ M1730 on my desk, and it sometimes feel too big for fps games.

Look at above post by ACHILLES.

He is right. Only Dell M1730 support dual-link that support up to 2560 resolution. I also have the Dell 30". My M1710 with 7900GTX will not run at that resolution. It will only work at much lower resolution, and I forgot which. I will not use the 30" to play game at max resolution, it is too slow........ unless you choose a much lower resolution.

I am using 24" @1920X1200 with most of the games I played, and it works really good. 30" is good, but you will need to "stay" sway from the screen for at least couple fts
