Ordered an XPS m1210 scratch and dent. Pray for me.

I've been looking around for a good deal on a m1210 for a while now, but with Dell coupons few and far between now, I decided to hop onto Dell Outlet to see what they had. I found this deal on Dell Outlet last night that I couldn't resist:

XPS M1210 Notebook: Intel Core Duo Processor T2600 (2.16GHz/667MHz FSB)
3945 802.11a/g Wireless Mini Card
12.1 inch WXGA Notebook Screen
100 GB EIDE Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
Genuine Windows XP Pro
2 GB DDR2 SDRAM 677MHz (2 DIMMs)
9 Cell Primary Battery
256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 TurboCache
8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability
Scratch & Dent

Cost: $1519 + Tax

I don't think I've kept a laptop more than a year other than my trusty lil 700m, so we'll see how long I'll keep this one . I was thinking of going the EPP route and getting a C2D, but that still would of been over $2k+ and the performance gain from a T2600 probably isn't that much. It doesn't have a webcam, but does come with XP Pro which I don't really have much preference for either though the webcam would of been cool. My only concern is how big the scratch and/or dent will be when it arrives. I've read the gamut from barely a nick to looks like it was thrown down two flights of stairs. As long as it's just cosmetic and doesn't affect the functionality, I don't mind at all. I'll be sure to post pics when it arrives.

i ordered a scratch and dent once before and the scuffs were barely noticable. I dont know how much variation there is between all of them though

I hope you don't get my return as a refurb. I used it as a hammer.

I sent mine back as it looked like someone had thrown it across the room. Several times.

There seem to be so many QC issues with the M1210, I'd look it over carefully before the free return period ends. You'll probably get the crummy Toshiba display, or something like a previous poster.

The speed isn't a huge difference between core duo and c2d. BUT the c2d is 64bit and core duo isn't. It's waste of money buying a 32bit chip, cause everything is going to be 64bit, even my celeron d 2.53 is 64bit. You got yourself an outdated metal junk!

@roland

i wouldnt say that everything is going 64bit and that 32bit processors are out of date.

1. you need a 64bit OS to use the 64bit support of the chip
2. there are not a lot of programs that actually use 64bit support
3. driver problems under 64bit OSs (Windows XP 64bit Version)

This MAY change under VISTA 64bit, but still... it will take years before 64bit is standard, as too many people still have use 32bit and have 32bit systems.

A Core Duo 2.16Ghz is offering more than enough power and the difference between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo is not that noticable in the higher clocked CPUs.

I would say... overall you have a decent system that will keep you satisfied at least for the next year.. and even longer!

just my 2 cents
