Just released by Voodoo and is definatly expensive but also introduces a new techonology, a ATI 9700 with 256 mb ram. Amazing considering Alienware hasn't even gotten the 9700........laptops like these makes me want to make my next top of the line gaming rig a laptop. You can find it on the front page of www.voodoopc.com

bigger is not necessarily better. someone posted earlier that they benched the 256 with the 128 and it came out no difference.

in my opinion, voodoo pc a great marketing gimmick and not much more. they don't sell better hardware than anybody else of that same nature does.

don't buy into the hype...

is a $2000 paintjob really worth it?

I highly doubt that a 256 video card would get the same as the 128, atleast not at high resolutions which is where laptops can't even venture when playing games.

I don't really know of any games that push over 128mb in textures. With 128mb more common in video cards, game makers would be more inclined to limiting texture useage as such.

the 256 definately has some future-proofing to it, but I imagine future games that take full advantage of 256mb of video ram will require a far more powerful GPU.

256mb video is (as you point out) quite pointless in Laptops. It is also next to pointless on even the most extreme desktops (even at high res).
Several web sites have done fairly exhaustive comparisons of 128mb v. 256mb cards. The best case for the 256 was less then a 1% speed advantage. The typical scenario was a tie, with the 128mb actually winning a few of the tests. The problem is that 1% was the largest margin, and that remains within the statistical margin of error. So the 256mb cards are better in theory only.... unless of course your computer is running too cold and you need some more chips to warm it up.

Also, it wont' be available yet. Just like the Dell's with the 9700 are for sale, but not actually shipping till april. So other Sager resellers will be having the same.
Yeah, it's kind of how 8x agp really didn't have an difference over 4x (unless you had a 64 meg card).
But only Doom 3 and Half Life 2 will be the only games to do a good benchmark.
