RAID 0 question

I know that RAID 0 doubles the RPM's of the drive but, from what I've heard, it only doubles the writing speed, not the reading speed. Is this true?

No, it doesn't double the RPM's of the individual drives.

In an ideal world, RAID 0 doubles both reads and writes. In the real world, it is more like a %30 gain.

RAID 1 only speeds up reads.

As much as it will take a bit of searching, there has been several threads about the speed impact of RAID.

It is not the RPM but more the data throughput that increases as you are writing or reading from two devices nearly simultaneously. For all intents and purposes the relative speed difference between reading and writing is influenced more by the disks themselves rather than any timing difference caused by inserting a RAID controller in the data path. Either way writes are always slower than reads.
