Screen issues, Aspire 3620 series

Hi,

I have an Aspire 3620 (3624WXCi).

The screen works perfectly when its first switched on and during use (mostly) BUT as soon as it goes to sleep or the screen switches off, it will come back up very dark and slowly come up to full brightness, similiar to an old TV. The annoying part is that it takes up to 10 minutes to get back to full brightness.

End result is I have to leave the laptop powered up 24/7 with the screen on or wait 10 minutes to be able to use it. Switching it off completly isn't really an option since I have backups happening automatically overnight.

The best part is that this is now my 2nd laptop after making office works replace the first one that had this issue and more - first one had a dead cd drive, faulty keyboard and weird sound issues with only one speaker working.

Is this a common thing with this model (they all have junk screens) or have I really been this unlucky twice? Also any suggestions on a fix?

A 2nd minor question, both also had/have a problem with a high pitched buzzing, any suggestions how to fix that?

I should also point out that both problems exist in the original OEM home install, a clean XP pro install and also in Ubuntu and Fedora core 5 so it's safe to say it's not a driver issue, though I wish it was that simple.

I have also contacted Acer, the reply was that the screen was considered normal but the buzzing was something they had never heard of before and to send it in and I *might* get it back in 5 weeks... And I had to pay for a courier despite the fact that the repair centre is in walking distance from me, dropping it off was not an option

You can probably guess I'm not going to buy Acer ever again but sadly I'm stuck with it for now, so hopefully its fixable.

Thanks
Hamish

sorry but this (taking a long time to come back) is not normal on any laptop lcd and not even on external flat screen, on external monitor - yes

Thanks for that, unfortunatly it's now the 2nd laptop and they refuse to replace it again for just the screen. In any case, it's 2 now of this model with that problem so I'm not sure its even worth trying to for a 3rd.

The 2nd problem, the buzzing, I use the laptop for university and as a result can't let them keep it for 5 weeks for a repair so I'm basically stuck
Again though, this is my 2nd one and the first had the same trouble.

Pity I can't just get a complete refund since I'd much rather just start again with some other brand. Acer Australia have a lot to answer for I think.

Thanks

Some thing I've just worked out, the weird noise comes from near the fan, almost under the hinge on the right hand side.
I have to wonder if the 2 problems are related somehow.
I'd open it up to check for anything obvious or loose but I havent been able to find a service manual for this model yet.
If anyone knows where to download a 3620 service manual, I'd love to hear about it

Thanks
Hamish

Thanks for that, unfortunatly its a bit too different from this laptop so I can't use it.

Anyone been able to find a 3620 series manual that shows how to strip it down?

Mind you, its already lost 3 screws from the bottom, if it keeps going like that, it'll just fall open for me anyway
