asdrew's new CX7

Well, my CX7 arrived late today, about 10 days after I was hoping for it, and a week after it was promised and I expected it. The wait for cool stuff like this is always hard, but well worth it.

It is a gorgeous machine and like many others, I will do a thorough review as soon as I can.

I had an early scare - On startup, it went through the expected "Welcome to Windows" type screens, and when it said "OK, you're good to go" (or something like that), I clicked OK and the computer abruptly shut off.

It re-started fine and has been fine since, so I guess it was a fluke or something.

I've spent several hours installing and downloading various programs, etc. and have a lot to go. Documents, data, media, and all that "stuff" needs to be transferred too.

Initial experiments with the sound are encouraging, although many others have posted disappointment. The surround-ish effects are good, quality and level are good. Without it at full volume, I was able to get my wife to tell me to turn it down, so its as loud as I'm able to play it anyway. (at least until she goes out shopping )

While wider than my old Sony GRX670, it feels a bit lighter, I'm going to weigh them eventually to be sure.

I opted to go with the WSXGA screen instead of the WUXGA so it would be less hassle to properly display on a second monitor or projector, which I do frequently. My Sony has a UXGA screen which I love, but always have to re-size to do secondary displays right. The WSXGA is more than crisp enough, and I know the WUXGA is even better. Like my Sony, you can look at the screen from the most extreme angle without any problem.

I'll post more as I spend time getting to know my new machine.

Congrats!!!!!!!!

I had a problem with mine right out of the box. Screen flicker, had to make 4 calls to them to even get someone to send me a file for a new BIOS (my laptop is less than 1 week old).

I will try and remain optimistic, though.

Congrats, I am still waiting for an update beyond "In The Queue" (i.e. at the painters ). I look forward to reading your review of a Kick A** notebook. Enjoy (i.e. you lucky bastard :P ).

Unfortunately, Dragon, the online status indicator is not to be trusted. When the UPS dude knocked on my door, the website said "conception"

The only times the status ever changed was after I would call them and point it out.

Hehe, then they must have been reading my mind, I was going to call them this afternoon and chew some one out if it didn't change.... And POOF, it changed. I'll be thinking a lot of evil things about them tonight, so I should have it by morning. *evil grin*

Good job and glad that you received it. I know you will love it. The system is very nice and should meet your needs. But I will say, after being on a business trip for the last week or so, it does get heavy.

But it was cool to pull out in the airport and show off!

Congrats!

Don't think of it as heavy, think of it as excercise. If you don't get enough exercise, you have to spend your gadget/technology money on a health club membership and your computer time working out.

I'm still wading through installations and set up in my spare time, and taking notes for a review eventually.

One issue I have found so far is that the voice tracks of DVD's are not playing. The sound FX, music, supplementary voices and stuff play left & right from the speakers or headphones, but not the voices. Does anyone know if there is just a setting I need to change or something?

Another thing was DVD's hanging up in InterActual Player. In InterVideo WinDVD, which I prefer anyway, they seem to be OK. Hopefully that is just a software problem I can fix with an update when I get more time to investigate.
