Complete reformat / clean install / m1210 / mediadirect

It came two days ago and I couldn't be happier. I played with it for about an hour, looked all the crud it came installed with, then as with any laptop I get the first thing I did was grab an OEM copy of WinXP and do a fresh install.

I deleted all existing partitions and reinstalled windows. And, as so many other people have found out, no more MediaDirect. I've searched quite a but, but I can't find anything solid or a clear explanation on how MediaDirect works, where it is located and what process I need to go through to get the functionality back. I don't mind reinstalling windows, I just don't know what it is I'm suppose to be doing.

Can someone with experience on the matter give me a little guidance? Thank you.

You should call up dell and ask for the cds to reinstall media function. Generally the MediaDirect function is stored on another partition so if you wiped all the partitions out then its going to be a little more work to get it done.

After an amazingly long session, I have it working. It's a bit different than the standard way of doing it, so I'm going to post a complete tutorial for installing it on my specific system though. Big thanks to the people here though.
