Slime Green m9700 on the way...

Happy to post I've just ordered my 3rd Alienware...I've spent so much time during the past few months waffling between the m5550, m5750, and m9700 - I decided I'd best make a decision and get back to leading a productive life!

Here's my Config:

Aurora™ m9700
AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile ML44 2.4GHz 800MHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache
Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005 with Service Pack 2
17" WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 LCD with Clearview Technology - Cyborg Green
2GB Dual Channel DDR SO-DIMM at 400MHz - 2 x 1024MB
(RAID 0) - 320GB (160GB x 2) Serial ATA 1.5Gb/s 5,400 RPM w/ 8MB Cache
8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW & 24X CD-RW Burner
Dual 512MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS - SLI Enabled
Internal 802.11b/g WiFi Card w/ Airgo MIMO Technology - New!
Power: Additional AC Adapter
Power: Additional Battery - Alienware® m9700 12-cell Lithium-Ion Battery
Floppy Drive: USB Floppy Drive
Warranty: 1-Year AlienCare Toll-Free 24/7 Phone Support w/ Onsite Service
AlienRespawn: Alienware® Respawn Recovery Kit
Free Alienware® T-Shirt - White (Very Important Accessory !!!)

Additional Comments:

Yes, I know I can get RAM cheaper elsewhere. I'm going with AW RAM because I want the system checked out "as is" before it's shipped. Normally, I'd order from Newegg.

Why order a loaded system with the 1440x900 display? I've had 1920x1200 in a 17" before and it's a bit too much for me (I'm old and my eyes are tired ). It may seem a bit of a waste to have all that GPU power pushing a WXGA display, but that could change as games continue to demand higher graphics capability.

I'm a little nervous about the Airgo Wireless card, as I've had good luck with std Wi-Fi cards...but figured I'd try something new.

Thanks to everyone who's posted reviews and comments on their m9700s. And a special thanks to Hammerhead, who helped a lot

Ordered Sept 13, estimated Shipping Date Sept 21 (we'll see how that goes...I'd just like to get it by Oct 8th...).

I'm jealous, you've got more hard drive than me, but I bet you won't use the extra battery much...

Congrats on AW #3 !!!

I've got the Airgo card in mine, and it has incredible range. Yesterday I fired it up and my wife and I checked out all the wireless networks in range of our house. There are five, two of them are secure.

There's a business near us that has a high speed connection that works well, our nextdoor neighbor has security so I can't get into his, but there was a network with a family last name on it so my wife looked it up in our phonebook. There's one family with that name, same spelling that's a block and a half away! I'd guess 1000 feet at least with trees and houses in between. I was reading two bars on the meter and it worked very well.

I wonder why these people don't have firewalls or any security on their networks...

To get the most out of the airgo card you'll need a wireless router with the airgo MIMO chipset in it. I'm looking at Netgear and Belkin now for myself though I could just keep using my neighbors connections... teehee...

Shazza nice order, but I thought your were in Oz no? Only silver m9700 available from the Australia web site or have you orderd from the States?

jeddie...yes, I'm in Sydney, but I travel back and forth to Florida several times a year...I would have ordered in Australia, but they had no color options, and didn't have the 512MB cards (plus 4-6 week delivery).

HH...lol, I don't expect to use the battery often in any case, but would rather pay $60 now...as I will need a battery boost occaisionally. The Hard Drives are overkill...but I like the 160GB drives. Photos and iTunes take a lot of space.

Gratz! I wish you good luck with your new toy. It is hard to resist the urge to buy a new system every few months! Especially when so much cool stuff is released. LOL

Holy smokin' shaz! Congrats...that's gonna be one helluva machine. I think the m9700 is one of my favorite laptops AW has come out with lately. It's solid, fast, I haven't seen many issues (if any at all), sleek/sexy, multiple colors, it's just a good all-around lappy.

Can't wait to see a review and pics...especially with the "slime" cyborg green. You're building quite a rainbow of colors.

Is there something in the air? A couple months ago, nobody was getting anything...now everyone has a new AW comin?

Shazza, Congrats on the m9700 order. I'm sure that it is going to be everything you expected and more.

As for the Airgo WiFi card, you're going to love it. I have it in my Linksys WRT54GX4 (SRX400) and the range and throughput are terrific. I'm able to walk down to the creek behind our property and connect at an amazing signal.

I'm now starting to get the itch to buy another AW, since a lot of people around here are getting new gear.

Thanks, guys...I'm sure it will be fun...

lol @ Yang...I know what you're going through...I thought I'd go for the m5750, but it came down to the fact that the new machine is for 80% gaming. If that was 50% or less, I probably would have gone with the m5750 or 5550. And note...I don't see myself taking the Cyborg beast into a business meeting
