Do you use a cordless optical mouse?

I am in the market for a portable notebook cordless optical mouse; however I have a few questions. First of all how long do the batteries last in terms of if the mouse is in use 24 hours a day 7 day a week? I am talking in general, so therefore I understand some will last longer than others. Another question if I get a cordless USB wireless mouse can I use a USB to PS/2 adapter with it? I do not want to use up my USB port on my notebook. My last question is do they feel heavy or uncomfortable when compared to a wired optical mouse, which is a lot lighter. Also any reasons why I shouldn't use a cordless mouse.
Thank you!

Jason.

I have a ms wireless optical mouse. the battery lasted about 2 weeks. it is about twice the weight of its wired counterpart, but since it is still very light, I didn't even realize it until I saw your post. Most of these mice terminate their wires with a USB plug, but include a PS/2 adapter. MS recommends the use of the PS/2 adapter.

Ok...I just lost my post. Ah well.

The point I was going to make was that if you really wanted to save on battery, you can grab the Logitech MX700/900 or some of the battery charger mice they have out on the market. Just a warning, though, those things are HEAVY.

One reason you may want to stick w/ a corded mouse (other than the battery issue) is the fact that most corded mice do not have the transfer rates of their corded brothers. That is, you will feel a lag when you're playing first-person shooters, but it's fine for everyday work and even most games. Ironically, the exception to this is the Logitech MX700/900 series...

I think the point I want to make is to have as few cords around my table as possible, so getting the Logitech MX700 or whatever will actually bring in a new cord, the charger itself. Unless the charger does not require cords. Actually I don't like the idea of changing batteries every two weeks. That drives me crazy.

Jason, I recently bought A4 Tech's Wireless Desktop
Model: KBS-2348RP
because I wanted a cordless mouse & keyboard, AND I wanted the batteries to be the same type in each so that they could be used in the recharger -- AA batteries. Paid about 50 USD for it.

The recharger supposedly has both PS/2 and USB connectors, as seen in the documentation, but for some reason mine has only PS/2 (gonna call the retailer about this).

The mouse is heavier than a USB wireless mouse for the obvious reason - there are batteries in there! It is however very comfortable. It does have more height than my previous mouse.

Battery life would be 2 weeks for my mouse but I always forget to turn the damn thing off at night. But since the recharger is about a meter away, I can afford to get off my a$$ and swap the dead batteries for the freshly charged ones.

The keyboard is nice & light and has the ubiquitous programmable buttons.

If you're looking to get rid of cords, this might be a good choice, especially if you want to keep the USB port free. If you want a lightweight mouse, you gotta give up the USB port.

Wish they made my Intellimouse explorer 3.0 in a wireless form. I love the fell of it. Most of the new "Ergonomic" mice aren't good for gaming, at least for me.

Though I'd love to have one.

My roomie uses his wireless MS one, not sure which model, but I think it's the one with the whele that scrolls left and right. It's heavy, and I don't think it has an on/off button. That really sucks, since when it moves in the bag, it turns on.
Battery life is good, but make sure you get rechargables. No reason to skimp in that department.
Works fine in FPS's for him. But I guess the lag would make a difference in really intense games.
Only 1 usb port? I don't think I'll ever go back to ps/2 ports. Less bandwidth then usb... Not nearly as good.
