I use a Creative Nomad Jukbox Zen Xtra 30GB - listen to a ton of lectures. One question: VARIABLE SPEED MP3 PLAYBACK?

Looks great. I'll consider getting it after my first gen nano dies in a couple years.

how much is it? if its going to less then the 30gb ipod, i will get it for sure, and is it basically like a portable internet? or u would directly have to pay microsoft to get on the internet?

Thought the Zune was going to be a nice new media player with wifi support thought it would be cool to transfers easily, but its only wifi for zune to zune transfer. And as of now MS does not plan on supporting DRMed music from any other store buts on. So you are literally buying an ipod alternative. I havent seen any prices yet, but I am sure they will have to find something real competitive to Apple's new price points for the 5.5g ipods.

as an avid linux user, 90% of my tunes are in Variable 192 ogg, which luckily my irivier H320 supports very well. Throw in the very well developed state of RockBox for iriver and i really see no reason for me to ditch it for a zune, or an ipod for that matter...lol. if *knock on wood* shall my iriver be lost/stolen/broken i will most likerly replace it with another H320, or if i can't find one, then an iAudio X5...that thing is th3 s3x.

Why must it be so hideous?!

The difference between apple products and M$ based products..

The Ipod shows up at the party dressed in a tux and holding a bong and some really good greenbud... good times baby. Ipod knows that everyone loves greenbud and he has plenty to share. Unfortunately people get bored off the GB!!!

The Zune on the other hand shows up in thrift store clothes that used to cost a lot new... In one hand Zune has a crack pipe and some high grade crack (this improves performance but causes a bit of unreliability, and occasional file (tooth) loss or corruption. The other hand holds a hacker's toolkit so Zune can play any file and unprotect the good ones so he can save his money for more crack and get a bit of free greenbud from Ipod as well.

wow i loved working for both of them... So are you high? or REALLY high?

one bad thing is that any song you transfer via the wireless will be wrapped in drm. it doesnt matter if you, yourself have created the music or if it is creative commons licensed, it will be encrypted with a 3day/3play scheme.

It's expected to be cheaper than the 30GB iPod.

I think this thing is cool. The interface is WAY better than the iPod's. I think it's meant to compete with the iPod Video. It's not an iPod killer, but it will definitely be a big player in the market. As Youtube-like sites become more popular, so will carrying these videos with you. The Zune offers more features than the iPod Video and it's cheaper. Seems like a winner to me.

We're in the same boat. I'm 100% ogg, and my H320 with rockbox abolutely clowns every other player I've seen. Except the X5, which will definitely be my next player
