So, I ordered an M1210 from Dell Canada on August 31st. The original estimated delivery date was today, Sept. 14. Every day that went by, the delivery date would get pushed back by one day, over and over. After a week, the computer hadn't even gone into production, and they hadn't charged my CC (which I thought they would do until I found out about their authorization-first, charge-later policy)... Anyway, after a zillion customer service calls with no answer I wrote them a nasty email and they responded with the following:

Quote:
Dear **********,

Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care.

We certainly apologize about any frustration this order has caused you.
As of September 6th, this order has moved from the payment hold process
to pre-production. Typically the time between pre-production and
production is 2 business days. This order should move into production by
Friday, September 8th. From this point it is typically 7 to 10 business
days to receive your system. Unfortunately, this system type is on a 5
business day back order. This back order would move your estimated
delivery date to between September 26th to 29th. Again, we certainly
apologize about the delay in having this order processed and any
inconvenience this may be causing you.

Should you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact us
at www.dell.ca. Please choose Support & Customer Care.

How are we doing? If you would like to provide feedback or feel you
have an unresolved issue please feel free to contact our Case Manager, at
Ca_OI_CustomerCare@Dell.com. We appreciate your comments.

Please be advised you may receive an email survey from Dell directly
related to the service I have provided you today. I thank you in advance
for taking the time to submit the survey, as your feedback is very
important to us.

After a few days, my shipping date started jumping around again the order status panel. I emailed them again.

Is the ETA from the 26th to 29th or is it the 22nd as suggested by my
order status on the Dell website?

Dear ********,

Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care.

The estimated delivery date is from the date the order was placed, August
31st. For your reference, the order has moved into production as of
September 7th. The estimated date of delivery still remains between
September 26th to 29th. Again, we apologize for the delay.

I checked the status today and:

Ship Date: 9/13/06

Your order has been shipped and is on its way!
Thank you for shopping at Dell.

Ok, wtf? Nobody at Dell has any friggin' clue what is going on. What a bunch of morons. At least my computer is coming early than anticipated

Apparently the Dell Canada Online Order Status means absolutely nothing. Here's how mine went:

August 31st -- Order Processing
September 9th -- In Production
September 13th -- Shipped

I will post a full review with LOTS of high-resolution digital photos and benchmarks and such when I get the computer.
