help....sound problem

Thread Starter
when i try to play music in winamp, i get an error saying:

"Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code: 80070057"

i have checked the device manager and there is a yellow exlcamation mark on Microsoft Kernel Wave Audio Mixer. I tried reinstalling this and it didnt work. I also tried disabling and enabling it but it hasnt worked as well.

I also checked the Sounds and Audio Devices under control panel and it says i have no audio device. Under the Audio tab, I cant even pick my soundcard because its all greyed out.

I have tried uninstalling my sound card and reinstalling it as well as the drivers.

Also, the Kernel Audio Mixer says something about a code 39 error.

Can anyone please help me to get some sound back?

same problem here. after reinstalling drivers and reboot it works - until the next time when the ms kernel waveaudiomixer stops.

its not happening just with winamp, also with mediaplayer classic and media player.

have no idea why ...

im having the same problem, and this isnt the first time. (on my m1210) I get an error on boot and my laptop doesnt even recognize my audio device. I'm not sure what happened, i think it may have to do with the dell media direct, because i accidentally hit it when it was turned off and then i started to get these problems. I did a clean install, deleted all the partitions and installed a fresh copy of winxp media edition. everything is updated as well. anyone know how i can get my laptop to recognize my sound device again? I have too much to lose with another format.

you people act as if youre the first ones ever to get these errors, you realize all you need to do is Google the error number and it comes up with tons of resolutions on the problems?
