IBM T-series user experiences. nc8000? $2600, what would you get?

I'd really appreciate any input you have that comes from first hand experience with IBM's T-series or the HP nc8000/nc6000 (or whatever else you think warrants my attention).

The laptop I'm going to buy will ideally have 3 hours or more of battery life, a sxga or higher res screen that's no larger than 15", be portable (no tanks), have good overall build quality, decent wireless capabilities, a dvd burner, a 5200rpm or faster hdd, a centrino proccy, be capable of 2 gigs of ram, and have 64 megs or more of dedicated vid mem (this is not crucial as I wont be gaming much).

$2600.. What would you get and why?
I"m throwing this question out there in case there are any oddball contenders I left out.

No I don't want an Alienware.

MUCHOS GRACIAS

Well the T series is excellent, but some of the things you want don't come on Ts or don't come without spending 3000+. They don't have a dvd burner for them, and for 64 MB + you need a T41p or T40p.

Your decision really, both are excellent computers and comprably built. The HP will probably have a longer bat life though (5 hours).

My t40p gets 7 hours of battery life if I put all the power saving settings on. I have the 9 cell battery which sticks out the back a lil but its not a big deal at all. I have a 64 meg radeon 9000 in mine and a 60 gb 7200 rpm drive with a gig of ram. The machine is great and I got it refurbished for around 2200 and it still has a 3 yr warranty on it. It's very light an thin and built rock solid. Oh yea and I have 802.11 a/b card.

Wow, didn't know that, thats awesome. Does it have a daul bat option too like the HP, or just an extended battery option? (T-series)

I'm curious if anyone has experience with the warranty service of either of the manufacturers. Been hearing good things about IBM...

Thanks

no exp with warranty but their customer service is AMAZING. I mean i was blown away. I called them at 6 pm one night to have them send me the recovery disks so I could wipe my machine clean and remove the recovery partition. Not only did I not have to wait I got a phone call the next day from my mom at 11 saying did you order something. I was like no why , shes like you got a package from IBM. They overnighted them to me at no cost. I was shocked.

Same here I was mad confused about what I got :\

The question for me wasn't what will I get it is what I actually ordered. I got a pretty much loaded nc8000 on order this weekend for around $3100.00. But I am talking loaded except for the RAM which I went with one stick of 512. I will be buying a 2nd stick of 512 for under $100 and pop it in myself. I researched everything available at this point in time by every vendor and the nc8000 was tops overall for me. Dual batts, good build quality, 1.7 centrino with ati9600/128 vram plus much more. Of course, if I don't like it I will just send it back before 30 days!

Allow me to add the nc8000 has a 10 hour battery life with dual batteries!

I just ordered a loaded nc8000.

Specs:

1.7ghz centrino
512mb ram (one stick, will get another for cheap)
Bluetooth chip as well as the 802.11 a,b,g mini pc card
60gig hdd 5200rpm
sxga+ wva screen
CD-RW / DVD-ROM combo
64 meg radeon 9600 (I dont play games much, just some hl mods which will run fine)
xp pro
etc.

If there's enough interest I'll certainly post pictures and a review when it arrives.
Btw I got it for an insane deal.... 2100 shipped.

Congrats..... that's a great price! What kind of discount did you get? BTW, personally I think you should change your order and get the 9600/128 vram for the $100 extra. You never know when you might need it and I'd bet that the better vram would be worth more than $100 in resale later on. Just my opinion. Did you get a preconfigured model or the configurable one and when is your ship date? Well, keep us updated and please do a review when you get the chance - I'll do the same when my nc8000 arrives (hopefully late next week!). Here's some nanners.....

Strangely enough I got it on ebay. There was a seller on ebay with 934 positives who was selling the nc8000. I looked at his evals and he had sold a lot of high end laptops in the past, all of which people were amazingly happy with and had arrived exactly as described (unopened box with right specs). He gave me the reseller part number (apparently he's a hp reseller).

I believe he was thinking people would bid on the notebook.. The auction had just started and he had a "buy it now" price of $2070 +$36 for shipping.
Not sure why he sold it so cheap, but he I jumped on it. I bought it yesterday @ 8pm or so and it's already on it's way to me via fed ex, he just emailed me the tracking number.
So I scored a brand new unopened box, full 3 year warranty, loaded nc8000 for $2100.
The seller also told me that if I have dead pixels (or other problems) I can replace it for another unit
Should be here tues or wednesday.

^^^^ Good for you! I checked on ebay a week before I actually ended up ordering my nc8000. There were only 3 on there at the time and the starting price was already too much, so i didn't waste my time. Plus, none of the 3 came with the ATI 9600/128. They all had the 64mb vram and the 128 was a must have for me. So I guess you will be able to post a *review* before me then. I'm looking forward to it!
