the ETA for North America is mid October.

now is it customizable like the z & s96j's or is it more so a set price, and what is the price. Ive heard for the Mermon 7200, 2 gig ram, 512 7700 and i think 80 gig was $1500. But i could be off. Does this sound right gentech, or is the baseline $1500.

The a8js is a Ensemble unit, it is not like the S96J which is a built on model.

Yes you can still custimize it, but it will void the warranty and thus you will have to get the reseller warranty, which will be fine aswell.

As for the specs, they are roughly correct we still have to see what the final specs will be and the final price should be close to give or take 150$ or so.

I can't wait for this lappy to come out, cause its got everyrthing i've been looking for in a laptop, in a nice smallish form-factor.......(go 7700 512MB looks AWESOME!!!!!)
i just love the fact that it has the 64-bit intel chip at 2 ghz, 2 gig or ram and the awesome (although nill on differences compared to the 7600) 7700 512Mb graphics card, and on top of that for 1500 bucks. Tell me a better deal and ill jump off the empire state building from shock

I keep reading different configurations for that laptop. I think the review units that Asus circulated had a 2GHz Core2Duo and 2 GB or RAM, but it wouldn't surprise me if the shipping units had a 1.8 GHz CPU and 1 GB or RAM...

It could also have a 1280x800 resolution screen, just like the current A8Jm. I'm not knocking the A8Js, in fact its release is keeping my from jumping on an A8Jm, but until it actually ships we're not really going to know what's inside the shell...

i was hoping no one would spoil the possibilities of it being incredibly awesome and at the same time incredibly cheap (comparably). Dang. Ill still get it in mid october though

I don't know why there is so much disinformation right before a laptop come out -weird. The units that I've see photos of (purchased, not demo PCs) come with:

2GHz Core2Duo
2GB or RAM
120GB hard rive (5400 RPM)
Nvidia GeForce 7700Go GPU with 512MB or dedicated video RAM (no turbo cache!).
Multi format 8x DVD burner.
14.1" LCD with a 1490x900 resolution display.
The normal ports (what stands out are the 5 USB 2.0 ports and the DVI port).

I'm checking to see if the one on sale in Spain has a Spanish keyboard -if it doesn't then I'll buy it since I can get it shipped to me for 50 Euro. I'd rather buy it from Portable One but I'm tired of waiting.

Any resellers heard anything more about the release of the A8js in north america? Keep us posted, thanks!
Yes, I sure would like to hear more about this. BTW, the 7700 has 12 pixel pipelines versus the 7600's small 8. So this thing should do quite a bit better. The 7600 already whips all of the mobile x1600 asses in gaming.

Ken, the Asus web site lists the hard drive controller on the A8Js as being SATA. Are you sure about the PATA hard drive?...

I email asuslaptop.com ( just seems to be a shop that looks alot like official asus place but found them on asus.com reseller list)

They said they will have them on the site by the end of the week or maybe nextweek but wasnt very helpful when i asked about price or customising

e.g i asked would a 2.33ghz c3duo be available as an option and the email reply simply said the word NO with nothing else. Not the best customer service reply in the world!
will the north american one come with bluetooth or not some people have said yes some have said no and im curious

I emailed asuslaptop.com last week asking about A8Js and I was replied that it's already available. Of course it wasn't and it took three emails for them to realize that A8Js is not A8Jc, and when I finally eplained everything to them they just ignored me Looks like their support guy, namely Andrew Lashchikov, is a complete moron.
