Torn between 5550 and 5750 help please

So I am verry undecided. I need a new laptop and have been going in circles trying to decide on what I want. Its now down to either the 5550 and 5750.
some info
I do plan to use it for gameing some, just not too extensively. My GF will be doing a lot of photochop on it and other image stuff. I will do some video editing. Battery life doesnt matter to me really. Viewing angle does mean something though. I plan to order whatever I get with a 1.83 core 2 and 512 megs ram (I am going to order 2 gigs from newegg) Definately a dvd burner and 7200rpm hdd. I had an alienware area51m (the verry original laptop they offered) some years back and liked it except for a known problem where the screen hinges gave out in time and cracked. Are there any issues like this with either of these models?

I know this is a lot but I GOTTA order one in the next couple days and am going nuts.

thanks
mike

Mike, I think you should go w/ the 5750 at this time. There are no issues with the laptops that you mention BTW. The 5550 is experiencing some issues with overheating or at least generating high heat. The lappies are both Dual Core CPUs and will allow for great Photoshop and video editing capabilities. I had one of my computer clients purchase the 5750 and it looks gorgeous. Don't get me wrong the 5550 will perform like a champ, however, I like the bigger screen on top of fewer complaints wiht the m5750.

My vote: 5750

Good luck on your decision, and please read the forums for news and updates regarding issues with the m5550 and m5750

I think the main difference would be the size factor. The vid card in the 5750 is more powerful, but it's got to fill more real estate...

If you need mobility I'd lean towards the m5550, but for watching movies, photoshop, and games I'd prefer the larger screen the m5750 offers.

I have an older A51m 5500(766) and it was kind of heavy and bulky. The current 5550 is thiner and lighter than that. Just got an m9700 myself and I probably won't be able to go back to the smaller screen now. I don't have to lug this thing around much though...

I did considder the 9700 for a bit. I decided its just more than I need. The aditional weight of the 5750 over the 5550 isnt really any concern, I do move around some but am used to fairly heavy stuff. How does the x1800 compare to the 7600? That may also lead me in one direction.
thanks all

I personally would lean towards the 7600. They are both very strong graphic cards, but I seem to see more advantages in the 7600.

If size/weight isn't an issue, I'd go with the m5750. The go 7600 in the m5550 is a good card, but the x1800 is better. Although synthetic benchmarks don't tell the whole story, the m5750 gets 5,000+ in 3DMark05, compared to 3,000+ for the m5550. It doesn't mean the m5750 will be almost twice as powerful as the m5550, but I've been impressed with people's comments here about the performance of this system for gaming.

Not real sure myself about the differences with the x1800 and 7600go...

You can configure a 9700 though with a single 7900gs to keep costs down. Though the m9700 has a single core processor it's still pretty fast and battery life on a single card is over two hours.

I do like the slim case of the 5750 though...

I did a google search, but for some reason all the searches I'm doing tonight are returning German or Spanish links...

Awesome, Shazza has caught the bug.

I see you did your research before you ordered the m9700...

I learned something tonight about video cards thanks to the one down under.
