go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility, pick it from the column on the left hand side, and then click on "Format" or something along the lines of that.... make it FAT32 if you're planning to use it on non-mac systems.

Its under partition right? Under format, the only option is mac os extended(journaled) Will this make is FAT32?

yeah, Partition is what i meant. lol...ok, i am not on a mac right now so i can't give you the details... sorry.

option #2 that you have is to boot a linux livecd and then in console use cfdisk to create a fat partition.

i am sure once kakaze or seablade or someone shows up, they'll be able to maybe give you a linux-less solution to the problem.

I've heard that some models of Sandisk flash keys don't work well OS X.

You can try formatting it as HFS+ but you won't be able to use it on any computer other than a Mac. If you have access to a Windows system try formatting it FAT32 there and see if it fixes anything.

nope, still the same after formatting it to FAT32. Maybe if I remove the u3 software, it might work. I rather keep the u3 though.
What is u3?

You don't need any special software, generally, to use hardware like that on a Mac.
seriously....flash drives are typically plug and play on any OS you stick em in (windows 2000 and up, linux 2.4 and up, os 9 and up)

it came preinstalled but can be removed. Pretty neat if u ask me.

uninstall it, try again. if it works, screw u3.

there should be an option to format as a "ms-dos partition" use that.

thanks for all the helps guys.
uninstalling the u3 did fix the problem. works fine on both my mac and pc.
I did like the password protection using the u3 software. Any other way to password protect it?
