T40 Restore Cd's

Thread Starter
I just got a new IBM T40 on ebay and reformatted it the first thing I did, But I need the restore Cd's for it. The model number is #2373-12u .

The reason I need them is because all the IBM software even when downloaded from the website is just not the same.

Id like the restore Cd's, but IBM wants $45 for them and I cant afford that.

I know they float around on the internet.

restore cd's are also relative to what version rescue and recovery the cds were made on. So ones that float the internet probably wont help unless u know which rescue and recovery it was made from and you will have to download and install that version first to even use them.

Dude.... Grammar. Seriously that was painfull to read. What is it that "isn't the same"?

You should be able to get all your drivers from the site. What else do you need? Other than drivers and maybe some third party hardware management software, the only other stuff that would have come with it is just bloatware and advertisements. Also, what are you basing this "it's just not the same" concept on if you just formatted it immediately?

When I recovered that R40 from the garbage I vigorously nuked the hard-drive, installed XP and got all the drivers and Thinkpad specific software directly from the website.

My Linux laptop of course works fine without that stuff, and I was able to do everything in XP without the aid of the Thinkpad specific software... it just makes it easier to configure and manage certain aspects.
