There is no need a rude and "above" everyone tone.

Imagine your new uber laptop, being 19, and having it seem like a hunk of junk... Not to mention starting college...

I'd be a wee bit upset and stressed out myself. The last thing I'd want to be thinking about is the repair and time without a computer while at university.

Here's an update: Got a tracking number last night. It hasn't left Houston yet. The CS guy said he'd keep me updated, but I have had to be proactive to get information.

Thank goodness I have a backup notebook - my old one. The CS guy still hasn't gotten back to me on the "automatic send-in" issue.

Yeah, some note added to my file so that, if I call into tech support and they say I need to take my computer apart, they will automatically issue me a fed ex number so I can send it in to Houston, instead of me having to take it apart. Too much time for me to do it. Plus, I'm not comfortable doing that to my $2700 investment.

homestarrunner tech support

...just a little too true. Check it.

By the way, my computer is at a FedEx station in TX. The CS guy never did get back to me, so I am trying to get in touch with him today to find out what exactly was fixed on my machine. I should get it on Monday.

femos battery

Ok, I got through to the CS guy over the phone. He said that the FEMOS BATTERY was causing the problems because (basically) it was a dud. So that, along with the LCD screen, got replaced. If anyone knows what the femos battery is or does, please post.

computer is in transit.

Well, I've heard of a FEMOS battery before, but I'm not sure exactly what it is.
BUT, I do know how to fix your subtitles problem. FFVII: Advent Children did the same thing for me. Its a setting with the PowerDVD, if you right click with the movie playing, you should see the subtitles option. This actually overrides whatever the setting you use when setting it through the DVD's menu system.
I'm glad you enjoyed your system up until things really went wrong at least, and I'm also very glad to see that AW is helping you out. If I were you though, I would have pushed for an upgrade, I've seen a lot of cases (especially here) where AW is more than happy to provide an upgrade in compensation for the trouble you've had with the computer. Well, I hope your overall experience with the m9700 will be as great as mine has been. I have the backpack too, and its a little tricky, but you can manage to get it in without unbuckling everything, just the main one in the front, (and thats also with my books in there.) Good luck with everything!

It's called a CMOS battery... It's basically what keeps a charge to your BIOS memory so that it keeps the settings (hard drive type, memory timings -- basic input output setting information) and keep the timer (clock) running.

the backpack

I've been using the alienware backpack with my old computer for a few days. It rocks! Plenty of room for everything, and now that I have a spot picked out for everything, including pens, books, mp3, etc., it is great. I love it.

Now, if only I can get a matching alienware notebook to go with it ... still in transit from TX.

'Sup, everybody. I got my computer back on Tuesday. The screen is all nice and beautiful. I haven't been able to get onto nbf for a while now (some tech problem at THEIR end), but whatever the problem was has been fixed. So far, I've done three "cold starts" and all three have worked. (When it showed up, Wednesday morning, and this morning.) I don't want to speak too soon, but it looks like I've got a fully working computer.

It's about time for one of these.

Happy

Hey, if someone could post a link to that thread where Hammerhead gives his sound settings to keep the subwoofer from shaking the keyboard, I'd appreciate it.

I'm glad you got it back and it's working properly !
