Dell Unix and Linux...... suggestions.....

Just wondering if anyone uses Unix OS or Linux OS on their Dell laptop. If so, does it interfere with the MediaDirect?? I want to run Windows and Unix/Linux. Please name the Unix OS and Linux OS you are using with your Dell. Thanks

I had Suse Linux 10 installed when I had E1705 with no problems. Media Direct did not interfere but be careful when you partition or format your drive to not remove or edit the MD partition (it is hidden at times). You should have no problems running Linux. I am running Ubuntu Linux on my M90 now with no problems although I dont have MD on my M90 the media buttons in the front all work under Ubuntu for me. Hope this helps. Maybe someone with better knowledge than me can provide more details.

I use gentoo on my M1710, I would recommend sabayon, its gentoo based and comes with XGL, which is kind of like vista's aero, except better, the only real hard part about gentoo is the installation, and sabayon is really easy to install, great distro IMHO.

I had Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake) installed on my xps. I took it off when I found out we were using a different distro in a class at school, but it worked fine. I had some issues setting up the wireless connection though, but apparently that is normal. Get the Live CD and try it first. See what it's like etc. I enjoyed it and will go back once I'm done this class.
