New graphic card for Inspiron 8200?

Hello

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 with an ATI 9000 graphic card. Unfortunately it has got a loose connection.
Does anybody know how to buy a replacement which is not puchased through dell (they are pricy!)?

The cards are pretty cheap on eBay, but good luck finding another Radeon 9000 though. They're a bit rare. Mostly what you find are GeForce 440 go's. Generally though the Radeons go for more than what I would pay for one. Your only other option would be to part the system out and use the proceeds to buy a new machine.

Also, are you absolutely certain its the video card? The LCD flex cables on that model is a rather weak spot on that model. So much so in fact that Dell released a redesigned LCD flex cable for us techs to install when customers had defective screens. It goes for $20-40 on eBay.

It's the video card. The same thing is happening in my 8200. As far as finding one, eBay seems to be it. Not the greatest prices for an M9 though. You can go cheap and pickup a Nvidia based card though. Or, if you're feeling brave enough, you can pull the video card from the laptop and flex the PCB by the lower right corner of the GPU. So far that is working for me. It's not a permanent fix by any means, but it will buy you some time.

Thanks a lot for the tips. Its the first time i use such a forum - and its supercool!!! Thumbs up.
Theres some good options on ebay. I didnt think of that to begin with.
It is the graphic card though. I tried to swap cards with a another 8200 and the flickering screen issue followed the card.

same problem

Hi All, I also have the same problem with ATI R9000. I brought the laptop to the repair shop and they told me that Dell would charge 800$ for the same card. On ebay I could find the NVIDIA GeForce 64MB for 60$ plus shipping. The ATI R9000 cost much more 180$. Is there any good reason to go for the ATI if I do not use my laptop to play games?
I intalled linux kubuntu and I was told that NVIDIA are more linux frendly.
What do you think?

Best,
Marco

I think that shop misquoted you a price, or Dell misquoted them. But the last time I saw a Radeon 9000 for an i8200 on eBay it went for almost $300. So I'd say stick with the GeForce. you won't notice a difference.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have already ordered it on ebay for less than 100$ shipping included.

Back from the dead, woo. Do you have the part number for that redesigned cable? Reason I ask is I managed to get a replacement M9 and it just scared the sh!t out of me by showing similar distortion to the one I replaced. I really really hope that this one isn't screwed.

I have (had) an 8200 and it had the flex cable problem...until right before the warranty went out I would open up the panel where it is located and "reseat" the cable and that would "fix" it everytime...until after awhile even that wouldn't work and I sent an email to tech support and immediately was told a new lcd, flex cable , the works was on the way from Dell at no cost to me.... my distortion was sort of a "negative" effect...colors all wrong ..almost like looking at old film negatives...but not that dark...lighter....very annoying...

Hi, anybody knows what is the meaning of "flexing the PCB by the lower right corner of the GPU"? It seems that I'll find myself with problems with the graphic card, but unfortunately I am currently living in the Ethiopian bush , so replacement is a problem. Therefore I am interested in fixes like this..
