ASUS z96j still worth buying?

Thread Starter
How does this compare to the s96j?

Are these both fast becoming outdated?

z96j has been offered with memron duo 2 processor, is this wise? was it designed for use with this processor or do ASUS have something awaiting release better suited to the memron?

Thanks

Read up on the A8JS. Should be out sometime early next month.

i would still consider the Z96j be a very worth-while system to get, especially if you're on a rather limited budget (even more true for the S version)... but raiz is right. the Z/S96j came out to be used with the Yonah.... now with the Merom we are expecting a new laptop from them, the A8JS

No, they are not outdated and still are a very good buy, especially if your budget is limited but still want a great machine.

Just got Mine this week. It is a great laptop regardless of price lol. Right now I am playing Guildwars and full rez and High settings and the Z96j is runing smooth. Total cost was 1400.00 and change. duo2 2.0 ; 2 gigs of ram. It is a nice laptop.

The A8JS has a 14.1" screen, while the Z96J has a 15.4" screen. Why then, would you consider the A8JS a replacement for the Z96J? Also, why should we automatically expect new models from Asus, when Merom is a drop in replacement for Yonah (w/ BIOS revision)? It would appear to me that the timing is just a coincidence, but if I'm wrong, is there any word on any 15.4" successors to the S96j/Z96j?

Right now they have 2 different types of mon. so I don't see what else they could offer. I went with the high res. version and I am very happy. If you have bad eyes I would say get the lower rez version cuz 1680x1050 can be kinda hard to see, but boy does a dvd look great lol.

The only upgrade they could make would be a even better vid card for the smaller screen laptops.

Z96J is Merom-compatible. Some resellers sell them with Merom chips. It's not outdated at all. And the advantages over the x1700 or 7700 over the x1600 are minimal.
