Hey everyone,
[EDIT]The links below DON'T WORK! Just go here and click on the corresponding filenames: http://www.rickyc.org/e1705/[/EDIT]
I finally dusted off the digital camera and snapped some shots of my new E1705, received Tuesday Sept. 12 (and then uploaded the pics via the built-in card reader slot
). They're not great, and the flash definitely ruined the 3rd and 4th pics... I will link to them instead of putting them here because they are big.

Don't forget to zoom into the pic, the details are what matter the most. On the screen you can barely see two windows, the one in the bottom-left is a Firefox window, and I set it to the exact size of 1024x768 so you can see the massive screen real estate that the 1920x1200 gives... And it is not hard to read things on the screen at all, I didn't increase the DPI either. The Core 2 Duo sticker is on there, it's pretty cool. To the left of the laptop, unplugged, is my 40gig WD Passport drive, it's very useful. Oh and don't forget the Razer Copperhead mouse, it is SWEET for games, got it off of woot!

From the top view. Anyone who doesn't have the E1705 and hasn't personally experienced it probably has no idea how big this really is, I mean you just can't get an idea from pictures. I was even a bit surprised (in a good way) at how big it is, pictures just don't do it justice.
And these other 2 pics are pretty crappy cause the flash ruined them, I'm gonna summarize them quickly cause there's not much to them and I'm running out of time...

I was trying to basically just get a pic of the "Inspiron | E1705". Also you see the 2 buttons, they are MediaDirect (on left) and Power. The status lights are, from left to right, num lock, caps lock, scroll lock, wi-fi, bluetooth. The wifi light is green, it's on but again the flash ruined it, and you can see the bluetooth is blue. They are subtle enough not to clash, although someone going with a huge one-color theme would probably hate 2 different color LEDs on their laptop...

Showing the media buttons. From left to right, mute, volume down, vol up, play/pause, back, forward, stop. They work great with Windows Media Player, I'm sure they work with other apps too but I haven't installed anything else yet. Also they are global, I can be in a game and hit the mute and it will in fact mute all sounds, and I have had no issues with the buttons at all. Also they backlight in blue for a few seconds after you press one, so if i'm ever in the dark I just press the far left mute button twice and then i can see to press any other buttons, although I have pretty much memorized the order by now anyway. Also those are the speakers, great quality, they sound a bit tinny when you first start playing music but when your ears get adjusted, they sound great. I'm sure they wouldn't sound great next to a real speaker system but they sure beat the crap out of every other laptop speakers I have ever heard. Oh and last but not least, the touchpad... Has horiz and vert scrolling bars/areas, those are cool and the width of them can be adjusted in software (I think). The buttons do not click, they are kinda mushy. I like them that way, they are similar to the keyboard and completely quiet, but I suppose some people would like a nice solid click... I have also found out, by pressing them both at the same time it simulates a middle click, so that is VERY useful because I have gotten used to middle-clicking tabs (in firefox and visual studio) to close them (instead of hitting an X or right-clicking and clicking close) so I can still middle-click to close when I don't have a mouse around.
Okay well I always type way too much so I feel it's about time I stop talking. Let me know what else you want to know, I might take pictures of the sides and back if anyone wants me to, let me know any suggestions or requests. I am not going to take it apart tho, I don't feel confident enough to do that yet... But overall, this is a GREAT laptop for everything. I do a lot of game playing and some programming, and plenty of chatting on AIM and IRC, and this thing runs smooth for anything I give it, not to mention it is so QUIET!!! I'm used to my noisy desktops with 3-4 fans running constantly making tons of noise, but this just turns on its fans occasionally, depending on the ambient temperature and what I'm doing, and I don't notice them especially with my headphones on or music playing. They are just a slight whoosh in the background, although they don't even come on very often at all. I guess the Core 2 Duo and the video card throttling are a perfect combination.
Oh and one last note (as if I haven't said enough already!!!), I run it on battery pretty frequently, and today I just got back from a car trip... I ran Macromedia Dreamweaver and Fireworks, and Firefox (doing web development and testing), and it ran for about 2 hours and said it had another 1:25 left. So the batteries last plenty long when you are just typing and doing light graphics editing. I'm sure games would drop that down quite a bit. Oh and this is with the 9-cell battery upgrade, not the standard 6-cell. It is a great laptop, and now I am finally going to shut up. Let me know what you think.
