I thinK to get a true "DUAL" monitor display is impossible on your latop. Unless you have a "Dual Monitor Out".
You can probably connect to an external monitor, but it'll display what's on your latop monitor.
You can only switch your on board LCD "ON" with external monitor and "OFF" with external monitor "ONLY".

????

The Video Graphics Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is a pretty weak gpu (video card) so the below might not work....

My dv8000t with a Nivida 7400 worked as below:

Connect up a second monitor, then go into display properties, should be showing (2) monitors... (The one on the laptop, and the second monitor)

If so "id" the monitors, one should be "1", the other "2"... then you confiqure to display desktop on second display, drap an app over to it.... then after that the desktop will show on one display, and the "app" on the other.

Any laptop with a VGA connector on it can support dual monitors. I run my HP DV5000Z with the laptop LCD and a Dell 20.1" widescreen LCD as my second monitor. I use a spreadsheet on the external LCD and email or word docs on the laptop LCD.
