Mini Aurora m9700 review

I just wanted to share my thoughts for future buyers and anyone interested in the m9700.

I'll start off with the bads:

The turion processor is not as fast as I thought (ML-44). I am not an extreme multitasker but it starts bogging down with IE7, downloading, itunes and a couple other things on. If I had a choice, I would definitely go intel core duo or core2duo if I could.

I also had a few system errors and lockups during the integrating of all my files and programs. A couple games like Oblivion had a hard time installing but it finally worked and I'd say this is a mute point as of right now. We'll see once the registry and hard disk starts to get disorganized.

The AC adapter is definitely warm and very heavy compared to others. No doubt, the Alienware packs a lot of power hungry components but man, it is hard and makes the laptop less portable than ever. The portability seems about the same as an XPS 2 (my old computer) and a recently auditioned Toshiba 17 inch Qosimo.

The Awesome:

I love the componets, keyboards, quick launch buttons (it is touch pad sensitive!!) and the mouse pad. I really prefer the gloss surface compared to a matte finish that I have used before.

Graphics wise, my benchmark was 9980 at stock settings right out of the box. I don't really feel the need to overclock anything because every one of my games run 60+ FPS with everything maxxed out at 1920x1200 settings.

Wireless is strong as always and I have had less drops than before. The realtech is a nice card.

The screen is huge and vibrant. I love glossy finishes. No dead pixels and no flushed areas. Perfect!

I love the blue color as well! It is the most beautiful laptop I have ever seen!

Glad you like it, cbc...

Re the processor, I think it will depend on what people are using the system for as to whether or not it feels "slow" to them. I finally decided to go with the m9700 despite this concern, since I almost never have any other processes on when I game. And, truth be told, the only time I see any slowing that bothers me on my Pentium M notebook is when it's running a virus scan or doing the regular AVG updates...
