The makers of the best Anti-virus program on earth, AVG, has now created their own app for Spyware and Malware called ewido anti-spyware 4.0 . You can find the link in my "Beginner's guide to better computer living..." sticky thread under Virus apps. It's number 1.5 just under AVG. I have been fooling around with it for a few days and, the first time I ran a scan I found 24 little bastards in my hard drive which I soon killed.

Really folks.... If any of the best and brightest on this forum is still paying for protection and or not using these two wonder apps, you need to start now!

I like this so much, I've stopped using Spybot Search And Destroy for the new ewido anti-spyware 4.0

Seeing this post made me feel good . The reason is that the AVG makers are actually from my home country! They started to become popular in Czech Rep. in early 90ties. Not long time ago Intel invested "few bucks" in them and later on they acquired makers of ewido originated from Germany! All I can say, they are just great

When you said you stopped using Spybot, I immediately downloaded it and found 60 problems, most of them tracking cookies. Durden, as usual you're on top of things. Thanks

Thankyou Bfisch06, It's a great app for malware and spyware.

I ran it and it found 145 issues. Mostly cookies but none the less I am a happier camper! Thanks for the info Durden!

no active protection on the free version! (hey a guy can wish) I'm running a scan now and its starting to pick up a couple things but I haven't scanned in a long time.

I like ad-aware for its portability...I can dump the directory onto a usb flash drive and run it for people anytime and still be able to update and all that so its never out of date. Not sure if ewido can do this or not, might have to try. Other than that I'm not sure I'll leave it installed.

That said I'm quite happy with AVG anti virus at home.

I too use AVG . Just ran the new program and it caught 31 tracking cookies , thanks Durden

Thanks everybody. I'd like to add one other thing, I ran spybot and adware right before I ran edwido so I'd see if edwido would catch anything that the others hadn't. As I said, edwido found 24 little bastards and that's music to my Alien!

Gah, spyware programs.. virus programs...

You guys need the two programs that kill them... A-Squared and CCleaner.

A-Squared is a free trojan killer, and ccleaner gets rid of ALL the crap that gets into your temp files. It also helps to delete what is left in your registry after you uninstall something.

Get ccleaner, and you won't need a spyware program... unless you actively visit pron sites...

Even then, you'd also hafta actively visit sites with trojans and not use firefox to get alot of damge...

Just use ccleaner after you visit these sites and you'll be fine...

Here's the thing, spyware gets into temp files. Ccleaner deletes ALL your temp files, even ones that are invisible, making your pc safe and you harmless. It;'s the safest thing and the best you can ever download. it's free too.
