M1210 design flaw? paint wearing on lcd bezel

I'll start off by saying i'm sorry I don't have a camera to take pictures of this with, but I will find someone with one soon.

The problem is that all along the bottom of the LCD bezel(right accross under the speaker holes and dell logo, and right above the round hinge "tube" at the very bottom)) there has been a line where the paint seems to be wearing off.

I'm assuming this is being caused from repetative opening and shutting of my laptop(i'm in college and am opening and closing it all the time).

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? whenever i get time i'll be giving dell a call about it, but i'm wondering if this is somethign common.

It is common. All we can do is observe and moniter this as it develops and report back on it when it is as good as pealed. If you can come up with a solution that doesn't require me shipping back a 3rd system please tell me! No tape solution plz.

its common.... you get what you pay for with dell

although im not complaining... i prefer my $800 e1505, fading paint and all over paying $2000 for a high quality macbook pro

haha thats intresting...i thought it was just a bunch of dirt on it..never bothered to clean it...but i guess it's just faded off paint =/

Yeah I have them too. Never would have noticed them though without deliberately looking. It's not from "overuse" because I rarely close mine or travel with it. It's on my desk and open 99% of the time.

after looking closely it's not only worn on the lcd but all the the plastic where the power button/ media direct button is.

cool, thanks a lot for the links. appreciate it.

my wear is in the same exact area as the one in the picture in the other form someone posted a link to. mine is becoming pretty apparent. i'm closing/opening my laptop probably 8 times a day for the last month and a half

Mine is starting to show as well. I would not have noticed it except for this post. Maybe some clear tape in that area to keep it from rubbing???

i hate this and the keyboard flex..... the paint wear is only showing more clearly around the bezel now, and i can also see some obvious discoloration on the palmrest now and won't be suprised if they turn black soon. i expect some level of wear... but common... i've had this laptop about 3 months. i feel bad calling dell about this also... i'm sure they'd offer a replacement or something drastic, but its going to cost them a lot and its only going to temporarily fix the problem. GR so frustrated right now...
