Dell 8600 Video and Bios Problems, Please Help

Ok guys I am not a comp Genuis but I will try to make this clear.

I was trying to play Serious Sam 2 without having to have the CD in all the time. (Hoping to get more battery life) so I found a patch at Mega Games and installed it for v 1.07 which I had (I have since uninstalled in the last 1.5hrs trying to fix this problem.) and ran the game.

Everything seemed fine. I maxed the settings because it is an older game and I thought the 9600 should handle it just fine. I did not get any in game glitches that I remember. I told it to quit, skipped through the text and shut my screen.

When I opened it back up I had all this crap on my screen. (Its still there to...) basically dots and mis-coloration all over. I found that Serious Sam was still open. SO I closed it... no help. I reinstalled the Omega Drivers.... no help... I also noticed my Bios is now acting up.

When I start it shows these weird dos characters and faces, etc. I have no idea what it is but when i try to enter the bios I can't read anything its all screwed up.

I tried to reflash the Bios but I am not sure if it worked because I can not read anything.

I get the feeling the memory is acting up but I never overclocked the card at all... I am at a loss for whats going on but now I can't do much of anything and I am on dial up right now which makes it worse.

Can you guys help? I dl'd dells BIOS update for the video card but its already installed. Is there a way to force the memory to clear or for the BIOS to flash?

Also why would my Boot splash and BIOS menu's be all screwed up?

I have no clue what to think guys I just know this really sucks and I need some help.

Thanks!!

that is most likely a video card issue. I have worked on the 8600's so these are easy to deal with. Since you are not probably wanting to be so invasive try this:

Go the the bottom of the notebook and remove the bottom panel with two screws where the memory is. Take out one of the sticks of memory and figure out if it is a memory issue. If when trying each memory stick you still have issues it is most likely a video card failure I am sorry to say. Artifacting in the bios is definitely not a good sign and is usually (though not always) indicative of a vid card problem.

Well I took most of it apart. However I am not having any luck.

I decided to clean it out, the basics. But its still there.... these blue dots all over and its still in the BIOS and all other screens to....

I really just want to try reflashing the Video Card BIOS and Memory and see if that helps and clears it... I thought there was a program that cleared all vdeio stuff like that and let you flash the BIOS. i have the video card BIOS from dell... but it will not just reflash the card....

I really do not have the money to replace it.... esp since I am sure its around 200 for the video card knowing my luck...

I will try it with just one stick of ram at a time and see what it does.

Nope not the ram... I have an external floppy drive... but I can't find an floppies.... dangit that looks like the only way to flash my video card.

Card is most likely shot. Sorry to tell you that but it is the most likely cause at this point.

yeah, sounds like a video card. And unfortunately the 9600's on eBay go for well over $200. That also means that any parts dealer that ISN'T on eBay is going to be 50% to 100% higher in price.

Have you tried just using Dells regular drivers? Not 3rd party ones?
