Thread Starter
I know they both use Clevo systems....anyone had any feedback on the customer service , build quality, etc.

I read their reseller reviews...seem real possitive.

Thanks

Always Been Loyal to PCTorque and never had to call sager with an issue... So couldn't tell ya, but I called Hypersonic today to ask about the GX7 (8790) system they were selling they told me 3 weeks till delivery Max. (was only on hold for 2 minutes, not bad)

So, that's interesting, I want to see some reviews on these machines!

welp..i got one of their older models from about a year ago...never had a problem with anything. Called tech support in the begining for a few things and got everything worked out fine. A few of the people I go to skewl with ordered their 64 bit lappy and seem happy...and Spygirl on this forum has one and seems happy.

THey have my recommendations

plus...im planing on getting their new gx7

w00t w00t let us know when you get it!!!

Hmmm

Okay, specs say "built in TV tuner" but when I go to PCTorque.com and configure one it shows the TV tuner as an option, and not included by default.

Anyone?...

"Built in" means it is in there and staying there, to me - unless of course we pry it open and somehow remove it at the end user level.
its built in..but im pretty sure the manufacturer can sent without it to save cost. etc... persoanlly i think if you have a 17" lappy like this u cant skim on the damn tv tuner

from what i understand, there is nothing wrong with hypersonic, but they are a good bit more expensive than pctorque... i just configured an 8790 from pctorque, and the corresponding hypersonic model (with no paint job) to the same specs that i would purchase, and pctorque was $400 cheaper......
but hypersonic's warranty and service seems to be a bit better. they have a better pixel policy, cover shipping both ways on rmas, tech support (no need to leave messages like with sager) etc...plus...u have a cool hypersonic name ;-)

Maybe no need to leave msgs, but you have to wait and wait for an email response. I sent them a question a day and a half ago. Got a confirmation that it was received. Sent an email to Tom @ PCT shortly afterwards. Since that time, I've gotten 4 different emails covering different questions about my purchase. Hypersonic has yet to get back to me. While their resellerratings seem to shine, their customer support is already lacking in my eyes.

HAve you tried calling them?

Hypersonic GX7 comes out $500 more than PCTorque's 8790 Configuration. $500 more is a lot more money. HOWEVER, if you go to the configuration screen on GX7, it says, and I quite "User Upgradeable Pentium® 4 Processor". If you look on the main screen for the GX7 it says "user upgradeable GPU" with a footnote that says "3. Hypersonic cannot guarantee the availability of GPU upgrades. Professional installation may be required."

Interesting. For $500 if I can put in a new P4, and get a video upgrade in a year or so (obviously it wouldn't be PCI express) it would be worth it to me. Plus the GX7 comes in a nice blue color instead of that bland god awful silver that the 8790 comes in along with every other George Bush voter's laptop.

While these claims may seem "exaggerated" or whatever, with Hypersonic's extremely high reputation

http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2081.html

I don't know that they would give inflated, exaggerated claims and risk their reputation.

Thoughts?

I actually decided to go with hypersonic because they are cheaper ... yes read cheaper. I already bought an 8887 with a 60G 5400, and bought another online, so I got the HD covered. I found DDR400 512 stick for $99 apeice and a slim cdrom for another $100. All I need to add is another $400 or so and I'm up to the specification I want to be at. I would love to see more dealers sell barebone configurations.

I was able to configure a barebones hypersonic with an excellent dead pixel warranty.

Hypersonic Aviator GX7
3.20GHz Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor w/ HT & 1MB Cache (800MHz FSB)
No RAM
No Hard Disk
No CDROM
17" WXGA+ Wide-Screen High Contrast Active Matrix LCD Display
6 in 1 Flash Media Card Reader Bay
ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 256MB
Integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Built-in 4-Speaker 3D Sound System w/ 5.1 Channel S/PDIF Output and subwoofer
1Year 24/7 Toll-Free Tech Support Platinum Service & Lifetime Support
No OS

Odd, I have an 8790 sitting in front of me and it doesn't look as you describe it, that is unless the George Bush "god awful silver" is really a very dark navy blue. I think that you are confusing the 4780 with the 8790 - and - take another look at the web site as the "blue" originally presented (as a picture of the 4780) is no longer offered without an addition fee for the paint job.

Hoofhearted,
I ordered a GX7 (3/3/04 online) with "No RAM" also. I received a call from a Hypersonic sales guy telling me that they won't ship it unless I order RAM. I told him that I configured it online and "No RAM" was an option (still is). Did you receive a call from Hypersonic stating anything like this? I figure it was just a "pad the bill" tactic. Let me know.

Hmm, my 8790 isn't silver, it's sorta blueish greyish graphite. The only thing silver is the Sager centerpiece and the rim around the touchpad.

ok on the color, sorry.

that's by far and away the least important thing I intended to discuss by resurrecting this topic :-]
