Typing "jumping to other areas" issue 3450 possibly me?

I have had my Sentia about a week now and each night easily put 2-3-4 hrs into using it, having a slight issue that I am not sure why it happens (could be user error but I dunno what) but thought I would see if this happens to anyone else...

While typing in a message box (like this message) or in emails or typing a letter (so in other words it happens in other programs / areas not just one program) as I type I don't watch my sentence line 100% and I know how to type well, but as I type suddenly mid sentence for no reason my blinking cursor jumps up 2-4 lines up and I am for some reason typing in a whole different sentence 2 to 3 line above my current sentence.

It actually just happend to me here again typing this message 2 times, I am making sure not to touch other keys beyond the letter keys and I don't even see any keys I could be hitting by mistake, is there somehow a chance it has anything to do with the touchpad or anything - I did disable touchpad while typing though, heck I dunno, was wondering what else it "could" be beyond having to send it back, I doubt they would take the time to type enough with it to see what it is doing, but that I can tell I am not hitting any keys by accident and I wondered has this happened to any other 3450 owners and if so did you figure out why or what you were doing that caused it?

Try disabling the scroll pad inside the touch pad and go for a day or two and see if it still happens. The scroll pad seems to be very sensitive so even a slight touch of it with your wrist or something can make it move.

Re: computers with touchpads and large hands

FTLOSM,

You're probably touching your touchpad. This happens to me all the time, not only with the m3450, but also with my other two laptops. If I remember correctly from a previous post, you're a pretty big guy with probably large hands, wrists, and arms. It's so easy to unintentionally swipe the touchpad with your hands or wrist especially if you have large hands.

Do this as an exercise. Exaggerate your hand positions vertically so as to not remotely even rest your hands on the back portion of the notebook while you're typing. If the cursor position doesn't change while you type like this, you can be sure that the problem is occurring because you're probably unintentionally touching your touchpad. This is what I did, and after a while, I convinced myself of this fact. Of course, I don't type like this at all, but I am now more conscious of this possible problem so I'm much more accustomed and careful when I'm typing. It doesn't happen that often for me, but everyone once in a while I experience this. Like I said, it's happened to me with all my laptops that have touchpads.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Wic, I will try that it (disable scroll all together) it could be a feather touch I am not even aware I am making to the outter right side scroll area, I just assumed by disabling touchpad while typing it would also disable scroll feature (haven't checked that).

Nol, Yep big guy big hands big fingers so yeah it could be something like this happening, I do have a few other laptops but none I have used as much as the sentia especially typing wise, they were mostly surfing web junker slow units i barely used, this is becoming my 2nd pc with hrs of use everyday so being this is my first "real" use laptop it could be an issue of that.

I sure do want to say this is probably just user error vs it being a sentia "problem", but I have looked around the keyboard hit every key around the main keyboard on purpose during typing and none seemed to cause this to replicate the issue while trying on purpose.

I had gone in and checked a box to disable touchpad while typing but I didn't attempt feathering with arm the scroll area (on purpose) to see if that causes it - I am on my main pc right now, but will check that later today on the sentia thanks for the idea...

Ok yep it is the touchpad, as I begin to type faster slow but sure eventually my wrists relax and arms drop a bit, my left thumb occasionally (due to my big hands) tends to drop and touch the touchpad everyonce in a while when I shift positions to type lower keys like capital V B C etc I noticed when I do that my left thumb does touch the touchpad even slight touch sets the cursor off (sends it up like 2 sentences), before disabling the scroll too (i had checked disable touchpad while typing but the touch happens between keystrokes so it still registers ughhh), but before disabling scroll too, I decided to type a bit and on purpose lightly LET my left thumb touch the pad and yep it jumped up as my hand went back up into normal typing position I am ever so lightly tapping the cursor without even realizing it.

Problem is its more of a central tap vs a scrollbar area slide, that causes this to happen, even sitting here right now if during typing i lightly tap the touchpad right in the center the cursor jumps up like to a previous sentence or two away automatically.

I will have to look around the touchpad settings and see if there is some touch or single click type setting I can disable or change to stop this from happening, or I will have to work on keeping those thumbs up off the touchpad.

Any setting suggestions that might help this from happening? Will try to train left thumb to stay up more too....

Bill (just did it again - typing the capital B ughhh hehe)

If its a synaptic touchpad, propabaply is, then there ARE loads of settings for it. Including at least 1 for this exact problem!!!!
