Light clunking noise in Aspire 5672?

Greetings all... Has anyone else had this strange clunking noise? It's completely random...sometimes I'll just open a web page or something, and something clunks inside the laptop. (Yes, I know that's a very technical term...clunk)

It sounds a bit like if you dropped somethng on the table but only from a few cm's up, and maybe a bit of a hollow sound.

Only thing I can figure is maybe it's a fan shutting off or something?

Anyone have this happen?

Yes, that's been happening to me since yesterday as well. It seems to only happen in Firefox, but that's probably because I've been mostly using Firefox. However, the main problem is that before it clunks, everything freezes. After a few seconds, the computer clunks (it actually sounds more like the hard drive turning), and everything is normal. It's not a major problem- yet- but it really scares me.

Anyone have any ideas?

hmm .. not quite sure if I had them but I sometimes get some noise when I have a cd in it

Well, the noise I'm referring to doesn't sound like a hard drive noise to me. It really is a "clunking" noise... Like a plastic piece knocking for just a moment.

Any other ideas?

run scandisk /f to eliminate the hard drive area

LOL I read this and had to look at the command again, carefully Eliminate the HD area... I know you meant, eliminate it as a potential problem.

Heh.

I know this is ... silly... but what the heck. Check your sound settings too. Make sure there isn't a sound effect turned on that makes a thunk noise.
