M505x coming out of standby - no display

Have any 505 owners seen this problem?

If I put my laptop in standby by either shutting the lid or hitting "FN F2", I can't ever get the display to come back without rebooting. The hard disk comes back because if I launch my email for example, I can hear the wave file telling me I have a meeting.

I can just shut the lid, and reopen it 2 seconds later and the display will not come back. My Power Scheme is set to Portable/Laptop, the monitor shuts off after 5 minutes on battery, the hard disk shuts off after 10 minutes on battery.

Thanks for any help.

i've had this problem many times, usually i get half chance the screen will come back black there's a FAQ on gateway's website that suggests you to press Fn+F3 if it doesn't show.

Thanks Darrel, I'll check out the FAQ. BTW, I should of mentioned that if I let the laptop go into standby via timeouts (IOW, the display and hard disk shut down due to inactivity for a specified period of time), I am able to get the display back.

I just can't get it back if I manually put the thing in standby. Weird. Gateway chat session ended with them telling me it is a Windows Files problem and to repair Windows by doing what amounts to a reinstall of the OS.

I reinstalled the OS and have never had this problem. I go in and come out of "sleep" several times a day. Format and reinstall.

Sure. I'm going to format my hard drive and reinstall the OS because my laptop has a sleep problem. As I stated in my post above, I can come out of "sleep" if I allow the laptop to go into sleep via timeout, just not a forced sleep. So, I'm not completely without the "feature".

Just a suggestion go get rid of your problem. I'm always more comfortable when I intall the OS myself so I know that I got rid of any problems from the factory install. Or you can cross your fingers and hope that a bunch of people have the same problem AND know how to fix it. Good luck....

The first thing I did when I got my 505 was to uninstall all of Gateway's crap and install XP Pro. Your suggestion is pretty drastic, formatting my hard drive. Especially, since that isn't any guarantee either.
