Camera Problem?

Hi guys,

I just had my 8790 sent in for repairs after a fall, the LCD had to be replaced, and they also replaced the laptop casing (free thanks to insurance!). I think this also included the camera that was built into the casing above the moniter. Installing the drivers for the camera that came with the laptop, as well as the new ones on the site don't seem to work, and I get this mysterious new hardware called ALI M5603C that Windows can't find any drivers for. I googled it and I found that a comapny named ALI makes pc components, including onboard laptop cameras. My guess is that the casing was replaced by the casing of a similar form factor, but with slightly different parts.

Any idea how I might be able to find the right drivers?

Thanks!

The normal 8790 camera drivers do not work for it though, any idea where I might be able to find the proper drivers?

Thanks!

Have you checked the Sager site?

The drivers that you tried- were they the originals on CD or DL'd from Sager? If they were DL'd from Sager and still don't work, it sounds like time to drop Sager another email and see if they can't give you a heads up on what happened in the exchange there.

Ok, thanks for the replies guys! I'll see about sending sager an email. The repair company I sent the laptop into from my insurance was micro-medics, and I'm fairly sure they replaced it with non-sager parts, since the drivers don't work, and for other cosmetic reasons, as well as what used to be the camera before the repair not showing up at all on the hardware readouts. My guess is that some other reseller of the clevo87xx might use some other camera parts, eurocom etc. And yes, the drivers I tried were from the cd and the sager site. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Vic,

The camera is a very difficult piece to get to work properly. First it has to be recognized as being attached for the software to work.

Try going to the command prompt (start-->all programs-->accessories-->command prompt)

Type in:

set devmgr_show_non-present-devices=1

Then:

start devmgmt.msc

At this point a device manager window will appear. Click View-->Show Hidden Devices and then take a look and see if you have one or more "imaging devices". Deinstall all of these devices.

Next expand the USB tab and see if there are any "unknown devices" listed there. If so, also uninstall these. If your camera device also shows up anywhere else (like "Other Devices") make sure that these are also uninstalled.

Now "Shut Down" the machine, wait a minute or so, and then power it back up. Windows should at this time attempt to find and connect the new device. You might need to let the machine sit for about three minutes for everything to complete - should be shorter. You may also need to reboot after this sequence has completed.

I have the appropiate drivers for the specific model that you cited. Please PM me and I will forward them to you.

Good Luck

Gary
