Sony SZ Service Experience

Thread Starter
Last Saturday I unplugged my wife's laptop and it died. Plugged it back in and fired it up and called support. Support determined it was the battery and sent me a new battery overnight. It arrived Tuesday afternoon and fixed the problem.

Sony did not require a credit card or any other information than address and phone number (which they already had because the SZ had been registered properly). Sony employees were friendly and helpful and resolved the problem in a timely manner.

Just an FYI.

Very good to hear.

Nice to hear, it's easy to get the impression that things are bad becuse it's so much easier to get riled up about poor service and to complain, so it's nice to see someone take the time and report the good for a change.

Good to hear that.

The SZ is indeed a nice notebook...

My T250 had dust inside the LCD screen. I sent it in a few days before the 1 year warranty ended. Sonystyle replaced the LCD screen; no dead pixels. They sent it back the following week; great service.

You guys are talking about Sony? Sony that's been infamous over the years for the world's worst service?

According to this link perhaps we were just lucky.

May and July got scores of 10 however.

There are companies with consistantly good ratings though, like Portable One, which actually sells Sony SZ series with 7200 RPM hard drives as well as other Sony models and brands.

I had the most unbelievable hassle with those Sony bums years ago trying to get a VCR fixed under warranty. Thinking about it stll gives me the heeby jeebies - and reading posts like many of those on your link shows that nothing has changed. Yeah, you were lucky.

Yeah but check out Apple's 6 month review; they only got a 2.0

Their 6 month rating is actually worse than Sony!

Looks like not so much their product but their customer service sucks worse than Sony. Either way, unless unavoidable it is IMHO best to just shell out the extra mony for tax and buy at a store unless you can find a reputable dealer like Newegg or PortableOne.

Dell's service is poor also according to RR:

Some interesting "Dell Hell" stories there.
