Does Everybody Like Widescreen ?

Hi,
I was wanting to know if everybody likes their widescreen?

On any model so to speak does anyone have issues with a web browser not bringing up the web pages correctly?

Say verses the 5.4 aspect screen. (I think that is how they rate them)

We just got a new E1505 and our college web page doesn't come up as it did with our old I8000 regular nearly square screen (5.4).
Some say it is the web pages are not designed by the designer to work good with the newer wide screen LCD s resolutions !

Does anyone have any type of issue like this with their wide screen LCD laptop ?

Not really. 99% of sites can make use of widescreen resolutions and the remainder usually letterbox (ie their aspect ratio does not change, they just don't use all the horizontal space).

Do I like my widescreen?
A big yes. From watching DVD's in widescreen to multitasking with multiple documents up at once, to Photoshopping to playing games, it's great.

As far as websites go, I have zero issues.

LOL... I had to chuckle when I read this....ROTFLOL BTW I guess DELL quit selling 4.3 aspect ratio screens earlier this year, so you can't buy one from DELL unless I am wrong about this. At least from the home dept.

I'm a little confused. You think the display ratio affects the loading of a webpage? Why would a webpage care about the display's ratio?

It's the webbrowser that it is concernced with, and even if you have a 4:3 display, you could make the browser 16:10 in dimensions, and that wouldn't affect loading a page would it? So why would it matter if the same browser were running full screen on a wide screen display? And if it's not full screen, it's not like you can't make the browser window a 4:3 ratio.

anyway, there's no way a wide screen display would mess up the loading of a webpage. I've used a WS screen for over 2 yrs now, and have not had a single issue, and as the others have said, "once you go wide, you never go back" haha

OK, I suppose that the way I wrote my question could leave you a bit confused. I am talking about that, as I have since found out, most web pages are designed to take up a certian amount of space....and that space has been typically for the 5:4 or 4:3 aspect ratio screens. I am simply saying that we were surprised viewing web pages with our new wide screen E1505 having been used to the old DELL I8000 5:4 type screen and web pages filling the screen space in a different amount, or fully used screen. I am not talking about the laptop affecting the way or how web pages load....you are certainly on the mark there. Some pages come up and use only about 1/3 of the screen others use 1/2 and others use it all. Our old I8000 always brought them up with the viewing screen fully filled in. A couple things about it is the our new widescreen panel resolution verses what we had before not being wide and the fact that not all web page designers take avantage of all the space available which comes to light more so on a wide screen. This was just a big change for us and being away from the newest thing out for so long it kind of surprised us. Does this make any more sense to you? fathergoose

fathergoose,

I think also, you are missing one of the reasons for WS displays. the idea is to have more realestate for more things to be viewable without being covered up. In many, probably most cases, the idea would be for the higher resolution displays to have the browser taking up maybe half to 2/3 the screen area, and other things like IM's or chats or some other thing in the open area so you can bounce around windows that aren't covered up

as to the web pages not filling a WS, that's because the designer built the page with a max width, usually to keep the look a certain way. You'll notice this forum will stretch to any width, but the layout isn't important here. But somthing like a newspaper site would want a more controlled layout, so they intentionally don't allow it to adjust to the width of a WS display like the 1920x1200 I'm on

So, I tend to limit the width of my browser to the max width of some of the pages I normally view, so it's around 75% of this diplay I'm using right now, which is a 19" 1440x900 external, cause I got tired of squinting at the 15.4" 1920x1200 with my 9100 haha

you'll discover over time that a few sites have bad programming, but most intentionally have limits, if they don't fill up your screen when in full screen web browsing You'll get used to it, don't worry. haha

Did you get the Dell package for the TV Tuner or do you use something else?

I love widescreen, and I do the same thing as rogueone

Non-widescreen is so late '90s.

Will never go back to 4:3...

Love widescreen but really wish Dell would produce 16:9 screens rather than 16:10.

Iwant all the pixels I can get.

only prob i've had with web pages in a wide bowser is some pages have background tile pics that repeat horizontally when they probably weren't meant to, a trivial thing compared to the benefits of wide. But I never run the browser full width anyway.

I went with something else. I got the idea from this post:
http://www.notebookforums.com/thread146317.html

This is what I use now:
http://www.fusionhdtv.co.kr/eng/Products/HDTV5usb.aspx

I bought it from http://www.snapstream.com, along with Beyond TV. I recently bought a used Winegard Sharpshooter SS3300 for a stronger signal, and now I get ALL the channels. I love it! I barely use my regular TV anymore.

I love widescreen. I also love my Dell 20" widescreen even more.
